Retired four-star Gen. Tommy Franks is lending his name and support to Senate candidate Michael Williams, a state railroad commissioner.
Williams is running in a crowded GOP primary to replace retiring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R).
Franks, who graduated from Midland High School a year ahead of former first lady Laura Bush, led U.S. forces into Afghanistan and Iraq.
As a retired military man, I dont often get involved in political campaigns. But I decided that theres a race going on in Texas thats so important, that I just couldnt stand on the sidelines, Franks said in a statement. Michael Williams, my friend, is running to be the next senator from the great state of Texas. He provides the kind of leadership that I think we need in Washington to get America back on the right track.

Woo hoo, Williams is the man!
Michael Williams could make a great Senator. This is good news.
Texans are sooo lucky to have 4-5 great conservative candidates for this Senate seat, including TWO railroad commissioners who are both running. I don’t think that Williams can win..I think Ted Cruz pulls it out..but it’s nice that Franks is supporting his friend...
As a retired military man. I second the emotion.
Williams is the Man.
Ted Cruz would be a great Supreme Court nominee.
I know him and I can tell you there is no one like hIm. A massive presence that you would trust your kids with.

Agreed. He's the first person I ever heard use the phrase, "Drill Baby Drill!"
An outstanding conservative, and my personal choice for our next Senator.
Michael Williams is an OUTSTANDING choice for Texas Senator.
He will run rings around KBH.
He will run rings around KBH”
And John Cornyn.
Excellent! Williams is conservative who has displayed such values and a is great speaker.
TX has a run-off if no one gets 50%+1 of the vote, so maybe we can have a Michael Williams-Ted Cruz run-off. Talk about an embarrassment of riches!
I like Cruz, but I’m supporting Michael Williams, and have already donated to his campaign.
And I hope that Ted Cruz is appointed to the DC Circuit Court of Appeals in 2013 and to SCOTUS in 2015 or so.
>> And John Cornyn.
We deserve better, don’t we? I’d like to think so anyway.
I sure wish John Carter (my rep) would run against Cornyn.
I expect that the primary pretty much guarantees who will win the general. Can a Dem ever again win a stetwide contest in Texas?
Here's my ongoing key question..happily for you all, you're going to get FOUR new CDs in 2012, and depending on how redistricting goes, you might get 5 new GOP congresscritters.
Will some of those now contemplating a Senate run opt for a House seat instead. And because of the new district lines, will Republican voters cut a candidate some slack if he or she right now doesn't like in the new district, but is proximate?
oops...”like” ( last sentence of #15) should be “live”
Good questions. I would guess that the declared Senate candidates will stay in the Senate race, not run for a House seat, because they’re all statewide officeholders. As for cutting congressmen some slack if the new district lines draw their home just outside the district, that will depend on how much voters like their congressman and how many of the district’s voters are currently represneted by such congressman.
A good endorsement for a good candidate.
I visited the GEN. TOMMY FRANKS MILITARY MUSEUM in HOBART, OK!
Well worth it! His metals, uniforms, guns, autos, awards, signed letters by George Bush are all there!
It is in a small building but once inside,WOW! There is even room where they run 9-11-2001 constantly. When you walk out of that room you remember why we are in Afghanistan!
Franks specificly wanted his museum in HOBART, OK. to help their economy.
Ditto on all of your post :)
