*I think perhaps Anne Frank’s experience transcends Amsterdam, and could be considered to have universal meaning.*

Since the holocaust did not happen on American soil, it’s not a frivolous question to ask why a memorial to one specific victim would not be anywhere else but where she lived. There’s already the HMM in DC. I would assume there are already numerous holocaust related exhibitions and/or museums in New York City as well.

Realistically, there should only be one massive memorial/museum dedicated to this historical event and it should be in Berlin, for obvious reasons.

I disagree with you. She is not just a “specific victim” who’s remembrances should be restricted to specific locations. This little innocent girl represents All Innocence. The message of her story, and her short life is, If this sort of thing could happen to this little girl who was a threat to nobody, it could happen to us all. And not just in 1944, and not just in Europe, and not just Jews.

That is why the book about her was required reading in many American schools. Not to learn about one girl, but to learn about the struggle we all have, the old and the young to remain free.
