A top military official says the U.S. was striking Libyan targets with low-flying Air Force AC-130 gunships and A-10 Thunderbolts over the weekend, bolstering speculation that the U.S. air missions have served to support rebels seeking to overthrow Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.

We have had boots on the ground for at least two weeks.
It's been their goal all along... now, they can have it sooner and better... compliments of the US/European forces and because of the US/European ignorance.
And the thunderbolt has a 12’, 30MM gatling gun. They are going after more than troops. That 105 will take out a reinforced bunker.
Don’t worry, Biden’s watching this. I hope he gets hungry for the Presidency. I’m sure you already know Biden opposes Obama on getting involved in Libya.
Some of the rebels are fighting toe to toe with the Libyan military and winning, even when the air support is not present. Someone is coordinating the rebel advances and calling in CAS for them.
My 19 year old boy isn't going near this crap. The Kenyan King can kiss my a$$.
However, as one approaches the coast, there are well wooded mountains and it is lush enough to give cover to the tanks and artillery pounding Misurata and blasting the harbor where the relief ships are trying to get in. A pity we haven't a real battleship or even a couple of heavy cruisers to secure the perimeter with counter-battery fire ... a lot cheaper than the million-dollar a round missiles.
Undoubtedly there are laser painter teams on the ground, and helos will be needed to suppress sniper fire from the rooftops and tall buildings.
Who knows how well Gadaffi is organized. He could pull back into the desert and run a harassing operation for a long time. Got to blast him in the coastal strip. He probably has 10 years worth of COMBLOC hardware and ammo stashed around the country.
Except that we shouldn't be there at all, this seems an excellent adventure so far! With all the different AFs, it reminds me a bit of the old "Blackhawk" comic series! I wonder why the Gyppos aren't in it. They have 425 Thousand men under arms and they could use the exercise, not to mention control of an oil field or two along the Eastern border.
OOPS! Bless me O politically Correct fathers, I have sinned in thought and word!
What happened to enforcing a no-fly zone? This is full up (Islamic) nation building effort.
Are those A-10s the most well-suited aircraft we have for air-to-air combat? The purpose of a no-fly zone is to prevent the enemy from flying, is it not?
I wonder what the A-10’s air-to-air combat record is over its history...
BS! If we have close in air support, you can bet your ass that there are americans on the ground calling in the strikes. That is how it works.
If the Military Brass will do this , under the guise of "I was only obeying orders", then you can bet your ass that when they are given the order to open fire on Americans, they will.
I don’t think anyone’s really doubted that we certainly had FACs, Special Operations personnel, etc. on the ground before the first US shot was fired. They’re just not acknowledged as “boots on the ground.”
If we’re in there with AC-130s and A-10s, this isn’t like any “no fly zone” I’ve ever heard of....
I’m so happy my Governor told him publically he can go to he#$.
Obama's insulting our intelligence. He actually thinks we're stupid.
Could we call it what it is......?
A “Don’t Move Zone.”
So if this is supposed to end Wednesday, that means Muammar just has to button down for another 36 hours?
The more I think abut this, it is purely an African Muslim conflict, and the American people have absolutely no interest in this.
However, Our African Muslim President does, and so we all get to go to war.
