When you’ve lost the hate-spewing loons, you’ve lost the black vote. Or certainly some of it.
That’s one possible reading the president might take away from the latest rant by Malik Zulu Shabazz, National Chairman of the New Black Panther and personal friend and admirer of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
In the accompanying audio clip, Shabazz tears into the president for going after Muammar Gaddafi, whom Shabazz evidently feels solidarity with because of his African roots. Never mind that Obama seemed clear, at least when asked over the weekend, that he is not seeking to depose Gaddafi. (We will presumably know better tonight, after the president speaks to the nation about his administration’s stated objectives in Libya, whether he is or isn’t.) Never mind either that Gaddafi has been equally clear that he considers blacks inferior creatures and that sub-Saharan Africa is “too black” for his tastes.
Like Farrakhan, Shabazz can’t be bothered with reality. He has too much invested in an alternative world, where blacks are in the midst of a race war with their white oppressors from which they felt certain to emerge victorious when they elected one of their own to the presidency. Hence his vitriol toward Obama, whom he lashes out at for representing “the ideology of the white man.” Again, never mind that Obama in his two years in office has bent over backwards to appease minorities. And never mind that according to the latest census 79.6 percent of the American population is Caucasian—a number that at least in genetic terms includes half of the president. Obama, in Shabazz’s warped view, is a traitor who

She should walk out, and his beautiful daughters should walk out on this bamboozling, buck-dancing Tom. Oh yeah, I said it. It would be interesting to know more about the “time long ago” when Obama was at “Farrakhan’s table.” If such a meeting really occurred, what was its nature and what was said? Inquiring minds would like to know.
In the meantime, there seem to be no available data on what percentage of those who voted for Obama in 2008 subscribe to the twisted worldview of Shabazz or Farrakhan. Because of the preternaturally large number of blacks who cast ballots for him—the estimate is between 96 and 97 percent—Obama had better hope the number is small. Then again, shouldn’t we all

It is down to a rock-bottom 98.7% of live, legally registered African-Americans. Of course, dead registered African-Americans and those voting with absentee ballot(s) are expected to turn out at the usual (for Phila) at 100-102%.
