Obama says too much testing makes education boring

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama said Monday that students should take fewer standardized tests and school performance should be measured in other ways. Too much testing makes education boring for kids, he said.

"Too often what we have been doing is using these tests to punish students," the president told students and parents at a town hall hosted by the Univision Spanish-language television network at Bell Multicultural High School in Washington, D.C.

Obama, who is pushing a rewrite of the nation's education law that would ease some of its rigid measurement tools, said policymakers should find a test that "everybody agrees makes sense" and administer it in less pressure-packed atmospheres, potentially every few years instead of annually.

At the same time, Obama said, schools should be judged on criteria other than student test performance, including attendance rate.

1. End the federal involvement in education. It’s a local issue. Defund the Department of Education.

2. School vouchers. Americans pay more for education than any other nation but kids aren’t learning. Market will correct that.

3. Ban teacher unions. Wisconsin-type law needs to go national.

It’s amazing that CBS 60 LIBERAL MINUTES and documentaries (WAITING FOR SUPERMAN) that point out how crappy teachers unions and the present system needs to be changed... but don’t follow that recognition to the logical actions listed above.

“...too much testing makes education boring”

HE ought to know... by the way, “O” is poster boy for the ‘minimal testing’ approach to ‘education’

How’s it look to YOU ???

Too much testing can lead to the conclusion that many students shouldn't be graduated.

This reminds me of what someone once told me about the Cultural Revolution, that Chairman Mao declared students wishing to attend his rallies be allowed to ride trains and eat meals for free at the mere evocation of his name. A good way to get the youngsters on his team.

What gets measured gets managed. Since the lefties running our schools don't want to give anyone the ability to assess their success or manage them - of course they want to be graded on attendance! What a bunch of crap.

God forbid we should find out what students actually know. It’s really much better to give everyone a diploma just for playing, right, Barack?

This is right in line with the liberal goal of dumbing America down. Continue degrading public education, and soon graduates won’t even be able to read or write, much less know anything about their country’s history or be able to apply logical evaluation to any issue.

Really? I learned the most in the classes where I had a 10 question quiz every day, and those classes were the least boring too. I’m glad I never had to take his class.

"Too often what we have been doing is using these tests to punish students," the president told students and parents

More often, though, we use these tests to test students. This is for a reason - without tests, we have no way to know if the students actually learned anything. While the teacher faction of Obama's public-employee constituency probably thinks this is a good idea, the rest of us don't.

Yeah, we obviously have no standards for the presidency.

So, let’s remove them from public schools.

Oh, forgot, public schools don’t have no stinkin’ standards.

Lefty’s always complain about “teaching to the test”, but fail to mention that the policy was instituted because so many students didn’t learn what they were supposed to. Perhaps this was because teachers weren’t doing their jobs properly or were too busy demonstrating how to put condoms on bananas.
