The family of Terri Schiavo, through their Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network, will present a symposium on end-of-life issues before a special Mass to remember and honor the life of the disabled woman.
The mass, which will be held at Ave Maria University, a Florida-based Catholic college, will mark the anniversary of the death of the woman who rose to international attend when her husband sought and won permission from a court to take her life via a painful 13-day starvation and dehydration death.
The symposium, entitled The Erosion of Medical Ethics, will be held on March 31 and Bobby Schindler, Terri’s brother and the director of the foundation bearing her name that tries to help disabled patients and their families, will be moderating the panel and also discuss how the removal of food and water to the cognitively disabled occurs daily in our society.
“With health care rationing on the rise, it is crucial to educate our future attorneys on the moral and legal understandings as it relates to basic healthcare needs such as food and water,” he said. “In the future, these are the very men and women who will be essential to protecting the rights of the cognitively disabled, the elderly and medically dependent.”
He told LifeNews.com, “It is our hope that upon graduation they will be part of our Network of lawyers who fight for the lives of our vulnerable brothers and sisters.”
Speakers include Brother Paul O’Donnell, Dr. Mark Mostert, Kristan Hawkins and Professor Richard Myers. They will discuss Catholic Church teaching as it relates to hydration and nutrition; historical prejudice to people with disabilities; health care and its potential effects on special needs patients; and the legal aspects of the Terri Schiavo case. The symposium is open to law students and faculty of Ave Maria School of Law.
Following the symposium Ave Maria University will host the “The National Mass for Terri’s Day” at the Ave Maria Oratory, located near Naples, Florida. The International Day of Prayer and Remembrance for Terri Schindler Schiavo, and All of Our Vulnerable Brothers and Sisters (“Terri’s Day”) was established in 2007 and is observed each year on March 31, the date of Terri’s death. Father Frank Pavone, the director of Priests for Life, will join again this year as the main celebrant for the event.
The purpose of this day is to foster education, prayer, and activism regarding discrimination against the cognitively disabled, and advocacy for people in situations similar to what Terri and her family faced. 40 Days for Life, a community-based campaign that over a period of 40 days attempts to transform individuals and communities to recognize the value and dignity of human life, will be observing “Terri’s Day” with prayer along with countless others who will be remembering Terri on this day.
The family is also sponsoring a fundraising concert in Ohio in June featuring the Beach Boys.

I think it is a matter of money. We are in so much debt that if they let every person live until they die it costs a fortune. It is horrible to starve someone of course. It is just a matter of who pays for the hospital bill of someone who stays alive years and years longer. I say the family pays. The insurance company should pay until the doctor says there is no hope. Anyone without insurance should not even have a choice. How dare uninsured folks leave the bill to the tax payers. Grow up. People receive freepmail. It doesn’t make them less conservative than trolls like you. It just means they received freepmail. If someone freepmailed them, and told them that you are a troll, that doesn’t mean that the person they freepmailed isn’t conservative. This *is* a pro-life, moral absolutes thread, and if you say that you think people who can’t afford insurance should just go away and die because the government (the taxpayer) shouldn’t have to pay for them, you’re choosing death, and you’re overlooking another option. The people who frequent these threads will never agree to choose death.
A good solution is for the government to get out of the health care business entirely. We should work to turn things back to the way they were before, with local charities and churches taking care of those sorts of things from voluntary donations. I would gladly contribute to such a cause, but the government, in their lust to take over every aspect of our lives, has put most of those places out of business with the welfare state.

This has nothing to do with being a troll. It has to do with being fiscally responsible which is SUPPOSED to be a conservative ideal. All I am saying is that the family should pay for the hospital bills. It is funny that you yell and scream at me but I bet you if an illegal was the one hospitalized with the same issue, you would wonder how it would be paid. I am so much more realistic than some of you. All I care about right now is the debt. You guys aren’t. We only have 15 trillion. I guess to you that is a drop in the bucket.

The only reason that these businesses become broken is that the government breaks them and then steps in claiming to be the only solution.

Yes I definitely see this. I just wish I would have been more understanding in my post. I did not even realize that “wagglebee” posted this until recently and here I am questioning this person. I am pro life but normally fighting for the babies. This whole “adult” life questioning is new to me. Trust me when I say that when you said pro-life it meant anti-abortion. When I am saying the rosary in front of an abortion mill, the fact that older folks were put out to pasture did not even come into our conscience. It just was not even possible that this type of thing was happening. I just don’t understand this killing old people thing.
I am now.....I showed my butt again....I don’t know if I will ever learn. lol.
