Every commander executing a plan that he considers bad or disastrous is criminal. He must point out the flaws, insist that it be changed and at last resort resign rather than be the instrument of the destruction of his own men.
-- Napoleon
Even we didn't think that the repeal of "Don't Ask Don't Tell" (DADT) would lead to anything like this so quickly.
How can even the US Marines be fully on board? Many of you may have seen this recent official announcement video by the Marine Corps on how they intend to do their best to integrate homosexuality into their units.
It's truly mind-numbing watching the commanders of America's armed forces cave in to an immediate and thorough large-scale indoctrination into the destructive tentacles of homosexuality. It's hard to figure out whether they actually believe this, or they're selling their souls. In the end it doesn't matter. They are helping destroy the US military as we know it.
What do you suppose Napoleon (or General Patton) would say about all this?

That isn’t quite true. In the broadest usage of the word “soldier”, Marines are soldiers. We don’t really call each other that, we call each other Marine (and everyone else seems to as well). In a classification sense of the word, usually “soldier” refers to someone in the Army as you will see them call “US Army Soldiers” while Marines are usually just “US Marines”. It is a fine nuance of the word but I think you would or could say a Marine is a soldier. As a Marine, I would find no issue in your calling me a soldier, although I would prefer Marine. Hope I didn’t muddy the water there.

Zero. There is almost 10% unemployment.
While I'm not a fan of the DADT repeal, it's fanciful to believe that there might be some resignations because of it. Besides, the only people who can resign from the military, or non-ob officers.
The only indication where you might be able to discern where the repeal has had a deleterious effect (at least on troop strength) is on the retention and recruitment numbers. Thus far, those number have been excellent - again, in no small part due to economic conditions.
“That isnt quite true...”

I really no longer expect the boots to know anything of Corps history and traditions...and since fr doesn’t allow personal URLs here, and since I won’t waste the time to type it all out, I leave those who choose to do so to their deserved ignorance...

None, it’s a bad economy and military pay is pretty decent compared to civilian sectors. You won’t be seeing a lot of officers jump ship. Everyone is trying to get their 20.
By the time there are lots of jobs, this issue will be old and probably accepted and forgotten about.
not the queerettes...
Besides, the only people who can resign from the military, are first or second year academy students or non-ob officers.
I don’t get why people react with such shock and anger at the military over this. Congress made it law. The military follows law. The correct focus of ire over this issue is Congress.
My 16 year old son is an great athlete, great GPA and works with as a coach for special olympics soccer and softball teams. His grandfather, father, 2 uncles and 2 cousins were in the Marines. The chances of me guiding him towards Annapolis are zero... same with ROTC or PLC program. His MOS is going to be “non-parasite” citizen tax-payer.
Don’t give up on the military. Sarah will fix the military. The gay thing will stay but at least Sarah will make America a proud country again. I am sure your son is strong enough to fend off the gay agenda after all he has a great parent in you and your a FREEPER to boot so you know he was raised right.
Your ignorance of Marine history is astounding.
“The finest soldier any captain could wish to have,” said of Dan Daly by BGen W.P. Upshur
Marines have always been called soldiers, Soldiers of the sea and stuff like that. The dictionary says that the word Marine means soldiers affiliated with the Navy. This stuff about Marines are Marines, Not soldiers is a pretty new thing.
“Soldiers trained in the ways of the sea,” -CMC, BGen Benjamin H. Fuller
“He turned down the gold bars of a second lieutenant. ‘I’m a plain soldier,’ he said, ‘and I want to stay one.’”
-GySgt John Basilone
Just to quote a few Marines that have gone before.
Does anyone know how many resignations we have had so far as a result of DADT?
I have not heard of any and certainly no one did at my command.
And that is an order, devil dog.
And there are still people who think if the shtf the military wont turn on the general population in this country. The will walk lock step with the totalitarian leadership in this country against its citizenry in a heartbeat and this is just the training/indoctrination that will lead up to that.
Indeed, how soon 'til the military loses too many and recruits too few?
You want to keep that brown talk to yourself.
They're following lawful orders. If the order was illegal, then they'd be justified in disobeying it. Unfortunately, as someone pointed out above, elections have consequences, and the consequence of the last election was a legal order from the President to integrate.
The honorable course for Officers who don't feel they can carry it out that order is to resign.
But I wouldn't recommend that. As best as I can tell, there is no law saying that gays must be integrated. It's just that the prior law was repealed, which theoretically should return this policy to the discretion of the President. If we elect a new President, that policy may change.
