Libya: Air strikes hit Gaddafi's hometown of Sirte

Coalition air raids have hit the town of Sirte, Col Muammar Gaddafi's hometown and the next target of rebel forces advancing westwards.

A Libyan government spokesman said three Libyan civilians had been killed in the city's port.

Heavy explosions were also heard in the capital, Tripoli, late on Sunday.

The raids came as Nato took full command of the whole military operation in Libya, intended to enforce a UN resolution to protect civilians.

<----snip---->

"We are already enforcing the arms embargo and the no-fly zone, and with today's decision we are going beyond. We will be acting in close co-ordination with our international and regional partners to protect the people of Libya."

It appears that NATO has expanded the mission. I can hardly wait to hear the lies our dear President will tell us about Libya.

Obama is creating a hard core terror state with oil reserves to fund their plans.

Hint: I had one democrat tell me today: "why is everybody blaming the President? He's not in charge, it's the UN and NATO. Not the President."

Gee, I hope you asked him/her - “oh, are we just supplying military equipment and personnel as mercenaries for NATO/UN, with no input or autonomy on our part?”

It must be all those old Constitutional rules — you know, the ones that force the President to do what the UN and NATO tell him to do.

They will say Gadaffi put them there. They’d already been claiming it before there were any reports of dead. Obama’s learnt well from his ancestors.

Actually he was on my personal facebook page when he commented against a friend of mine saying that. If he were on my political Facebook page I would have responded and made for some good debate. Since he was on my personal FB page and I did not know him. I unfriended him and deleted his comment. :)

"We are already enforcing the arms embargo and the no-fly zone, and with today's decision we are going beyond."

I'm shocked! Shocked to find mission creep going on here! /s

We moved from "not picking winners and losers" and limited logistical support of a French/UK no-fly zone to being "tip of the spear" with tomahawk missiles and B-2 bombings. We've moved from taking out anti-aircraft operations to attacking armor and ground forces.

Obama is a hypocrite, likely a liar and maybe a buffoon.

We are aiding the rebels unlike his repeated claims. Will he get away with it? Will he get away with ignoring congress while soliciting the UN? Is the goal regime change while trying to create enough plausible deniability for political cover? Are these rebels Al Queda and Muslim Brotherhood rather than freedom-loving Libyans?

Even in the same day, Hillary said we have a vital interest in Libya yet Secretary Gates said we don't.

We're either witnessing gross incompetence at the highest levels or political guile like we've never seen. Neither is acceptable.

All hell would break loose in the press and congress if the Bush administration acted the same way. And it should.

Eventually the “Rebels” will start killing each other for power and al Qaeda will use Libya as a recruiting hub against Europe.

Or did someone expect Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and the like to walk out from behind a sand dune?

NATO bombs Gaddafi's hometown to stop Gaddafi from committing a mass slaughter in his hometown?

Yeah, just a little hard to buy, huh? Some of us pointed out at the beginning that the mission, as stated, would produce a stalemate once we reached the government-held towns, and so it was clear the stated mission wasn’t the real mission. We’ve just crossed the line into activities that prove that point now. No air defense to destroy, no civilians to protect (in fact, we’re failing to protect the civilians of Sirte from rebel attack), just plain old providing air support for the rebels. I find it difficult to believe this is an unintended result.

OBummer and france have no intention of honoring the NATO agreement, they will just keep renegotiate it while they keep up the illegal war. Broke france wants that oil.

Excellent recap.

It’s not mission “creep” . . . it’s mission “sprint”.
