Biden Aide Apologizes After Reporter Kept in Storage Closet During Fundraiser

Published March 27, 2011 | FoxNews.com

The vice president's press secretary has apologized to a local political reporter after he was kept in a storage closet during a Florida fundraiser.

Scott Powers, a reporter with the Orlando Sentinel, was relegated to the storage space during a fundraiser Wednesday for Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., apparently to prevent him from speaking to people before Vice President Biden showed up. The Orlando Sentinel published a brief account of the incident earlier in the week.

Biden spokeswoman Elizabeth Alexander, responding to coverage of that account, said in a written statement Sunday that the decision to hold Powers there was a "mistake" and that the reporter has accepted her "unequivocal apology." The apology was made shortly after the fundraiser.

"This was the unfortunate mistake of an inexperienced staffer and the vice president's office has made sure it will never happen again," she said.

If it was Cheney's staff who had done this, then Cheney would probably also have to apologize for the waterboarding of the reporter. ;-)

Apparently, as idiotic as it was, it really did happen and it was just a “waiting room” situation. IOW, the reporter was miffed he didn’t get to smooze with the rich and powerful but was kept in a crappy storage area that had a window, a table, and a chair. I don’t know about you, but my closets don’t have room for a table and chair.

So why exactly was the reported locked in a closet?

This is beyond a mea culpa

FREEDOM OF THE PRESS

Politico has even been complaining Obama keeps them at bay and refuses questions.

That's a storage area, not a closet. He had a chair, table, lights, and a bottle of water. If it was "kidnapping" then he could have crawled out the window or left when he was "let out" or every time he stuck his head out the door. Much ado about nothing.

If it was Cheney’s staff they would still be looking for him.

“This was the unfortunate mistake of an inexperienced staffer and the vice president’s office has made sure it will never happen again,” she said.

Now after President Biden accidentally drops the a-bomb on Moscow:

“This was the unfortunate mistake of an inexperienced staffer and the vice president’s office has made sure it will never happen again...”

"Uh...do the words kidnapping mean anything here?"

Reporter apparently entered the closet willingly. Unlawful detention would be a more likely chargeable offense.

The staffer needs to be let go, this is VP of the United States. It demeans the office.

Doesn’t matter if he was kept in Buckingham Palace. He was detained against his will simply for trying to do his job. That’s technically kidnapping, and if us ordinary peasants did such a thing, we’d be looking at long prison sentences, if not life. Because it’s Biden’s staff, Holder won’t do anything.
