The international coalition force is planning a ground operation in Libya that could start in late April, a high-ranking Russian intelligence service source said on Friday, RIA Novosti reported.
"Information coming via different channels shows that NATO countries, with the active participation of Britain and the United States, are developing a plan for a ground operation on Libyan territory," he said.
"From all indications, a ground operation will be launched if the alliance fails to force the Gaddafi regime to capitulate with air strikes and missile attacks."
If the events in Libya follow this scenario, the ground operation could start "in late April-early May," he added.

This war is very convenient to Congressional democrats who can hang over the heads of House GOPers the specter over shutting down the govt while our men and women are at war.
I wonder if 0bama went to war for the budget
Oh goodie the Old media and now freepers are using the French word 'sortie' to describe U.S. air combat missions:
sor‧tie 1 a short flight made by a plane over enemy land, in order to bomb a city, military defences etc:
Exactly! I'm amazed that those who support Obama's War are now actually using liberal democrat tactics in their responses. I guess we'd better start using spell check.
If this turns out bad knowing what we know, if the Republican Congress does not come out and start asking questions like this weekend you can know the democrats will blame this on Republican Congress for lack of action and use politically in the next election.
2200 Marines on float suggests a heavily re-enforced MEU; not something to trifle with. Not sure which MEU is on float there (yet), but I would bet my bottom dollar that battalion is SOC as well.
Obama is a Muslim.
Hey Obama, you put unit size boots on the ground in Libya, you can kiss a second term goodbye based on Libya alone. There, you and the big boys chew on that for awhile. . .
Open or closed?
There is where your answer lies.
Last week during his televised prime time speech to the people spelling out the directives and time line for this little kinetic military action.../s
And people thought he was nuts for negotiating with the Taleban in Afghanistan. Maybe this is what the negotiations were all about.

As I recall, Levin was arguing the point of the constitutionality of his move in reference to his powers as CIC, not the moral or intelligent authority to do so.
Ummmmm, your suspicions are noted, but we were already at a state of war in two other instances. let them make the arguement that one is better than the other.
We've all seen the commercial “show me the CARFAX”, well Obama-lama-ding-dong, show me the real birth certificate! His utter reluctance and stonewalling to produce a valid birth certificate can logically only be construed as the actions of a person with someone to hide. And I firmly believe, what he has to hide is he was indeed born in Kenya, to a Kenyan national, thereby disqualifying him from holding the office in which he sullies each and every day. Even Mooseshell let it slip once that he was born in Kenya.
I myself was not born in this country. I was born on the island of Saipan in the Marianas while my Dad was stationed there as a Navy physician. But I was born to American parents, in an American military hospital (okm quonset hut)on an American military base, on a US territory. That makes me as American as anyone born in Atlanta GA to native Georgians.
No.
Levin made several points...
He said that the War Powers Act (which isn't even a law, btw) is unconstitutional.
He said that a president can use military force with out a congressional declaration and that congress can defund such an action.
I also believe, if I remember correctly, that Levin said that we should try to take Gaddafi out with a missile strike. Perhaps someone here could confirm that.
The Kearsarge is on station and the Battan is on its way 3/23/11 to reportedly relieve the Kearsarge and may very well be on station on Monday. I remember the Saratoga was to be relieved from the Red Sea before operation Desert Storm was being planned. The Sara was the first carrier group to return after the war.

Ground troops follow air strikes as spring follows winter
I agree. Our involvement in this affair is idiotic. No no-fly zones. No Tomahawks, no nothing except for perhaps some drones so we can monitor what's going on. We can never have enough intelligence.
But, I would point out (just as a point of fact) that those Tomahawks don't last forever. I'm not sure what their useful life is (I'm not even sure if it's unclassified), but it's not forever. Put another way, if we don't eventually use them, we lose them and they have to be scrapped. It's not an excuse to use them here, but it might be handy information to have if we have to use them in the future (for a genuine mission in our own self-interest), and some leftist bitches about the costs.
Yes, it would funny to call into Mark’s show (who I like) and call him a statist just for the heck of it, hang up and listen to him rant. Actually you wouldn’t need to hang up as Mark would take care of that part himself.
