Fear of sharia in Tennessee
The Guardian ^ | 26 March 11 | John Esposito

Posted on 03/26/2011 8:04:47 AM PDT by LSUfan

Senator Bill Ketron's bill goes further than other irrational US reactions to Islam by attempting to outlaw sharia entirely.

The United Kingdom has officially sanctioned the use of Islamic tribunals to settle some disputes, and in Germany, Islamic legal scholars such as Mathias Rohe have noted the compatibility of Islamic law to German law. The application of Islamic Law in Europe may remain controversial, but in the court of American public opinion, the idea of the Islamic legal system having any application in the US provokes massive social angst and sleazy political opportunism.

The southern state of Tennessee is the latest example of an irrational fear of Islam, which threatens American values and Muslim civil liberties. Bill Ketron Jr, a Republican State Senator in Tennessee who was first elected in 2002, introduced Senate bill 1028 to outlaw sharia.

Esposito is funded by the Sauds. He is a shill for the Muslim Brotherhood. Nothing he writes on Islam can be trusted. Furthermore, he is clearly demogoguing on this issue. He seems to have no problem with Sharia law infiltrating the UK and Germany, yet he is completely misrepresenting Senator Ketron's bill. It never "outlawed sharia." That is a lie. It is clear that Esposito never bothered to read the bill. He merely wrote what his Saudi masters want.

We have a Constitution here, payed for in blood, you bad- dentured , tea-swilling Brit pansy. We don’t need some barbaric, 7 century mumbo-jumbo for governing ourselves.

Irrational is a value determination by the writer, who is an illiterate crayola fan. Eposito needs to grow up.

Correct. Esposito has received tens of millions to fund his Islamic studies center at Georgetown University. He was bought and paid for a long time ago.

Muslim civil liberties
An oxymoron if I ever heard one. Especially concerning their women.

There needs to be a constitutional amendment to the 1st that specifies islam is not a religion.

Let me be clear, I do not fear islam. I despise it. I despise all that it stands for. I despise it’s practitioners and its goals. I despise its false prophet, and the culture of death that he and his followers have spawned.

I always love the way the Brits feel free to criticize the American political process. This from a country that still has a Queen and the other royal welfare recipients.

It isn’t “fear of sharia”. You cannot impose your own laws against those set by the rules of the State Constitution. Hell, any group could come up with any damn fool set of “laws” they want if that were the case.

It’s NOT a religion. It’s comparable to scientology in one respect. Scentology is disguised as a religion whose true agenda is nothing more than an elaborate scam designed to separate the rich and famous from as much of their $$$ as possible. Islam is a socio/economic/political ideology disguised as a religion whose true agenda is control of the masses.

He’s not trying to outlaw islam. He is simply saying you cannot apply your “law”, which allows for mutilation, murder, rape, detention...and the list goes on.

Why does it have to be fear? There are just some things thinking people know they shouldn’t put up with.

Just because I won’t put up with it doesn’t mean I fear it. No, this is pure hard-eyed calculation. See tagline.

Agree wholeheartedly and have been saying it for a while. See my tagline.

It is a totalitarian, misogynistic political system that uses religion as a beard. That political system is at complete odds with Western ideas of individual rights, as well as at odds with the Constitution.

What's the deal with Tennessee?

I've seen lots of articles lately concerning Tennessee and Islam (mosque in Murfeesboro for example). Why are they targeting TN?
