In an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, Mr al-Hasidi admitted that he had recruited "around 25" men from the Derna area in eastern Libya to fight against coalition troops in Iraq. Some of them, he said, are "today are on the front lines in Adjabiya".
Mr al-Hasidi insisted his fighters "are patriots and good Muslims, not terrorists," but added that the "members of al-Qaeda are also good Muslims and are fighting against the invader".
His revelations came even as Idriss Deby Itno, Chad's president, said al-Qaeda had managed to pillage military arsenals in the Libyan rebel zone and acquired arms, "including surface-to-air missiles, which were then smuggled into their sanctuaries".
Mr al-Hasidi admitted he had earlier fought against "the foreign invasion" in Afghanistan, before being "captured in 2002 in Peshwar, in Pakistan". He was later handed over to the US, and then held in Libya before being released in 2008.
US and British government sources said Mr al-Hasidi was a member of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, or LIFG, which killed dozens of Libyan troops in guerrilla attacks around Derna and Benghazi in 1995 and 1996.

We’re in Debt President Obama!
Wouldn’t it have been cheaper to just confiscate Al Qaeda’s arms in Afghanistan and just ship them to Al Qaeda in Libya?
Gaddafi’s son pushed him release Al Qaeda on the basis that they renounced terrorism
Wow; and I’M SOOOOOO SURPRISED? Time to vent Japan to the southwest. Why does the stinkin’ middle east get to escape quakes and natural disaster? They diserve the worst.
Nothing to see here, move along. We ain’t supposed to notice this.
Nothing to see here, move along. We ain’t supposed to notice this.
Gadaffi has been struggling to keep Libya from turning into this...and this is who we’ve been helping all week... this is what we are supporting when we support this war...

And look how that turned out.
BOY! DO WE EVER LOOKING FVCKING STUPID.
THANKS, BARRY, YOU STUPID ASS BASTARD.
The barbaric Sharia Law of Islam
Not in our name...Bring The Troops Back From Libya!
So do you think Daffy is worth the lives of more Americans?
Especially when we are now supporting muslim terrorists who do wish to kill us? How do you explain that a guy that was shooting American troops in Afghanistan is now fighting with troops in Libya? Nonsense it is.
I don’t get it, other than it justifies insanity.
Not In Our name... Bring Em Back From Libya!
Lot of American companies getting hurt by the embargo. Was that the plan??
So do you think Daffy is worth the lives of more Americans?
Gadaffi needs to be removed, best case example being a smart missle. To not remove Gaddafi when given a reasonable the chance to do so, serves notice to other terrorists that they can get away with it.
Do you actually think differently?
What makes you think that Abdel-Hakim al-Hasid is the real rebel leader, other than his own self pronouncements?
America ain’t who she used to be.
If you lived in another country, and our forces came there to “install deocracy” or whatever other bullsh!t reason they offer, what would you do?
As far as I can see, we are bad guys now. I cannot even recognize my own country, and frankly, I can’t say I support it any longer.
Daffy is but a mosquito in the scheme of things. Not to mention that Bush, Blair, made signed deals with him.
So, are you into protecting Osama’s buddies?
I know, I know...I am extremely troubled by the fact I can no longer distinguish my country from the enemy.
I really don’t know who is the greater villain at this time.
If I root for my troops to win....then I’m also rooting for al-qaeda to win?!
Fvck this, this has to stop yesterday!
Sounds like something a chickensh!t would do.
Let’s send Barry down there on foot to go oust him.
How’s that grab ya?
I wonder if someone will ask Onothing if he understands that the people we are supposedly fighting in Afghanistan are the same people we are defending in Libya. I guess not. Our alien-in-chief is such a loser!
