A 16-year-old girl is facing up to a year in jail after creating a Facebook page insulting her classmate as 'hoes'.
The teenage 'Mean Girl' allegedly posted nine photographs of the girls from her school in Manassas, Virginia, and added lewd comments about them.
The Facebook page called 'Stonewall Hoes' has since been taken down by authorities.
But the teen, who has not been named, has been charged with cyber bullying at Stonewall Jackson High.
Authorities said the comments posted under the photos led to the charges of harassment by computer. The girl has been suspended and now faces expulsion.
Student Monica Escobar, a friend of one of those depicted on the website, said she didn't think the page was fair.
She added: 'I don't think it's right. I wouldn't like that to happen to me or anybody else. It hurts your feelings and gives you a bad reputation.'
Virginia has some of the toughest laws with regard to computer harassment and school officials are vigorous in cracking down on cyber bullying.
Doreen Dauer, the school's supervisor for student assistance said : 'They know it [cyber bullying] is against the code of behaviour at the school. Students have a hand in writing that code.'
Ken Blackstone, Director of Communications Services for Prince William County Public Schools said officials did not comment on disciplinary actions taken against students.
But he said the school system takes bullying of any kind very seriously. 'Blackstone added: 'In general, corrective action may range from an admonition to suspension or expulsion. All student discipline incidents are handled case by case.'

kiss your freedom goodbye.
Isn’t truth normally a defence in cases like this? Should be easy to test the comments for validity.
OK.... the punishment is far too severe for the crime of running off the mouth and fingertips. Especially since it was taken down before it actually hurt anyone.
Know your hoes
Crack hoe
garden hoe
sorry couldn’t resist.
POLICE STATE!
The criminalization of everything continues....
The charges should be based on libel, but I suppose the age of the perpetrator might not allow it.
/har har
maybe if they took the little shi* to Mexico and let her work in a hoe house for about six months she would understand what she is doing.
And here in the USA, wait until Gorelick is FBI Director... you’ll go to jail for your screen name.
No great loss...looks she was heading for the streets anyways....and her second pregnancy..
True and what’s ironic is all the legislators bullying each other all the time one the news with name calling, lying about each other etc.
It’s how they intend to control us, by rigging the system so odds are all of us will end up arrested, convicted criminals at some point. That way they can selectively take away what rights they don’t want us to have such as the right to posses a gun...
Think about it...
Whoops. This IS the good ole’ USA. I saw the UK Daily Mail and I thought it was a story in England.
So does this new “tough on bullying” mean they’re going to prosecute the boy he sucker-punched the autistic kid down in Mississippi?
It would be great if the term bully was replaced with the word asshole from which all rules, regulations, laws, discussions, complaints, punishment, and righteousness would stem.
Wasn’t there a lot more sense in the old days, when the Headmistress would call her into the office, put her over her knees, and give her a few good whacks on the bottom?
Then she would tell her to behave, or she’d get twice as many whacks the next time and have to stay after school?
Kick her out of school? How will that help her learn how to behave, which is part of what is meant by “education”?
I would think that the 1st amendment would apply in this instance so I don’t see them being able to put her in jail for a year based on saying bad things about someone. Now she may be liable if it can be proved that the young women mentioned were not “hoes” but given the sexual promiscuity of today’s youth even that may be a stretch ;-)
