You are setting up a false choice. Your premise is non sequitur. If they don't coexist, they are both meaningless.

Correct. And you are within your rights to have a gun in it. But you are not within you rights to park it on someone's land without their permission. If they don't grant permission, you can't come on. Now they can't open it and search it, IMO, but if they later revoke permission to be there, you have to go.
