"...literary detective Jack Cashill discovered months before the November 2008 election: nothing in Obamas history suggested he was capable of writing either Dreams or his 2006 book, The Audacity of Hope. In fact, as Cashill continued his research, he came to the shocking conclusion that the real craftsman behind Dreams was terrorist emeritus Bill Ayers."
Obama's history does have huge gaping holes, which are highly visible to anyone who hasn't been hypnotized into believing that anyone who questions Obama's qualifications is racist.
They said the same thing about Bill Clinton- CIA funded Fullbright protege etc.
Maybe Barry really is the Manchurian President, as Aaron Klein writes in his excellent book of the same name.
I like to call him The Man From Nowhere.
” Learn on the job or try to get out of town as much as possible?”
Evidently, the latter.
This is seriously old news!
“I think Mr. Cashill is right, but I cant see what difference it could ever make in the real world. Obamas supporters dont care.”
True, this is really more for the history books. Revisionists will rake over Obama like they’ve raked over every other public figure. At some point, perhaps, they won’t be able to continue saying he’s one of the smartest presidents ever. And they certainly won’t be able (if this story is accurate) to say he’s the best writer ever to be president, as some people have said. It’ll sound like they’re taking the cherry tree story seriously.
Has he ever done anything?
Most likely, though he's probably forgotten all about it by now.
There's little in Obama's background to suggest that he had much literary talent. Somebody probably did help him during the process of producing the book.
Did Ayers have a hand in writing the book?
Possibly. There are enough mysteries surrounding Obama that one can't rule it out: he and Ayers did know each other and were friends.
Did Ayers write the book? That is to say, is it Ayers's work more than it's Obama's or the anonymous ghostwriters?
That's a lot less likely. Cashill's stylistic comparisons aren't very convincing: "sea images" like "ship" and "horizon" aren't that uncommon in autobiographical writing.
I find some interesting opinions on line. One is that whoever wrote Obama's book is a better writer than Ayers, so Ayers couldn't have written Dreams. Another is that Ayers is the better writer and the stronger personality -- so strong a personality that it would have been hard to subordinate himself wholly to the "Obama" persona and not so good a writer that he could have easily faked the tone of Dreams. In that view, a book by Ayers would have had sharper edges that needed to be ground down to suit the "Obama" personality.
Ayers may have had input -- maybe major input -- but somebody other than Ayers or Obama put the thing together and had the last word. Some day, we should look more deeply into this.
Are none of his English teachers or other teachers from high school or college still alive to comment on his writing or other academic abilities? He seems to have slipped through school like a phantom no one saw.
Ayers and Obama were living in the same New York City neighborhood in the 1980s and were both active in local communist politics. Obama would have us believe he first Ayers years later in Chicago. It is quite unlikely they didn’t already know each other very, very well.
Or was it Reagan National?
You are assuming facts not in evidence, where has anyone proven that he attended any schools. :)
“Or was it Reagan National? “
I could be mistaken on which airport, but it makes no difference.
I just remember Starbucks at a large airport.
So, believing in God makes one unreliable? Found that missing link yet?
Good idea bump.
Tom Daschle was hip-dip in the origins of his campaign, as was Bill Ayers. Vernon Jordan "walked him around" some Clintonista-in-exile parties and dinners in 2001 and 2002, introducing Obama to various veteran pols like Paul Begala, Carville, and the rest.
But before that, he was in bed for years with the New Democratic (Communist warmed-over) Party and ACORN.
Interesting thought. Where to look? Well, ready at hand was the occupant of the other side of Ayers's bed: Bernardine Dohrn. Maybe Cashill should run a sample of her writing through his Wayback Machine.
You should take into account that Bill Ayers also wrestled Rashid Khalidi’s book into shape for publication. Meaning he was a combination editor and ghost writer and no doubt he did the same for Hussein Obama. All three lived in the Hyde Park neighborhood

Personally, I found ‘Dreams’ way too introspective for the Obama we know today. Also the book was a bit too poetic.
I wondered how a flunkie business writer livimg in NYC could afford to take at least 3 months off to travel around Europe and Kenya handing out cash to relatives. Just one of many things I wondered about
