But in order to win, she is going to have to say some things to win over independent voters, and I'm not sure her partisans here on FR will be able to handle that without cranial explosions.

Her Long island interview shows she can win over a room full of independents as well as her India trip. Her 90% approval in AK also is a good indication she can win over not just independents but conservative dems.

But my question is why is everyone wanting her to run a general campaign before the primaries? In a primary election you do not try to "win over" the independents. You try to win over the base. Only AFTER you secure the nomination do you need to worry about independents.

In my opinion the GOP primary electorate is significantly more "moderate" than is Free Republic.

My evidence is simple: by the time my primary came around in 2008, the surviving candidates were: Mitt Romney, John McCain, and Mike Huckabee.

FR can zot all the RINOs and "Mittbots" but that does not take them off the voting rolls.

So I do believe that Palin (if she runs) will try to appeal to that segment of the GOP electorate.
