Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo) failed to pay $287,273 in personal property taxes on a private airplane for the past four years and will immediately repay St. Louis County for back taxes owed.
Shes also planning on selling the plane, which she co-owns with her husband, after POLITICO revealed last week that she had used taxpayer dollars for a political trip around her home state of Missouri. McCaskill had spent $76,000 from her Senate budget on trips on the aircraft over the past four years.
McCaskill called a Monday press conference after POLITICO asked questions about whether she had paid her personal property taxes on the aircraft.
I have convinced my husband to sell the damn plane, McCaskill said on a conference call with reporters. I will never set foot on the plane again.
The payment of back taxes and the sale of the aircraft is the latest chapter in what has become an embarrassment and a political problem for McCaskill, who is up for re-election next year in a critical swing state.
McCaskill said there was no effort to evade taxes, noting that she had paid $38,800 in sales taxes on the plane for the past 55 months. But she said she was disappointed in herself for not ensuring the property taxes were paid.
There are people I could blame for this, she said. [But] I take full responsibility for the mistake. I shouldnt have assumed somebody was doing it.
Pig Lady McCaskill is very upset.
That she was caught.
Taxes are for the Republican sheep to pay. Not for democrat party thieves.
Too freakin' high. How 'bout that?
Clair McCaskill- Paying taxes is for chumps and Republicans
Just found this:
“McCaskill and her husband, Joe Shepard, co-own the eight-seat, two-engine plane with other investors. They bought it in July of 2006 through Sunset Cove Associates, an LLC her husband incorporated in 2002.”
Well, on the bright side, Claire can now fly with the masses and enjoy many more “love pats” from the TSA. That’s how she described ‘em, anyway.
It will pay two school teacher salary.
Next up, a Cabinet Appt to Obama admin.
LOL!
The TSA will keep waving her to the next line.
Standard answer for a Democrat - ONLY when they get caught.
I can honestly see somebody not knowing that they had to pay property taxes on a plane. You don’t pay property taxes on a car and you don’t typically live in a plane.
I’d chalk this up to her accountant being negligent and the airport she kept it in also being negligent.

Figuring out all those taxes is tough. Even for someone who was State Auditor of Missouri from 1999 to 2007 don’t you know.
In Missouri, a tax on cars, boats and airplanes is collected every year.
Wesley Snipes, because he was unwisely led, choose to fight the feds rather than cough up the dough.
He should be out of prison soon, he wouldn’t be the type to cause trouble in prison.
Lets not be too mean to Ma now, she has after all, been very busy enforcing the No Fly Zone over Libya ....
exactly what I was thinking...in what universe can you rack up a $287,000 property tax bill on a plane? And in what universe can you owe $287,000 in property taxes and only have to pay up when a newspaper brings up the subject? I'm guessing I would be in all kinds of hot water if I owed the Govmnt that kind of dough.
She fancied herself as a Nancy Pelosi...Jetting home each weekend in her private jet and leaving a big old carbon footprint. But Nancy pulled enough rank to get a free military jet at her disposal while McCaskill robbed her (the taxpayers) Senate funds to pay her jet expenses
She should have known then.
I wasn’t aware that she was once state auditor.
I’m from Canada and our tax structure is much easier to navigate. Our taxes might be higher, but we don’t nickel and dime people however we can to get the taxes.
Check my post #24.
They not only didn't pay the taxes on it but it looks like she was trying to supplement the income on the plane for their investors.
