Saturn aka later cars = Opel. Some of the newer GM cars especially the Buicks looke like they were opel design including the Aussie G8. Too bad GM did not go bankrupt and reorganize. F GM and Chrysler.

That's a good assessment - thanks for the info

I have 1999 Yukon and it has served me well. Instead of getting a new(er) one I will spend time/$ to keep it for a lot longer.

Looks-wise the Chrysler 200 isn't really all that much uglier than the new Acura or KIA. Where are the tiny FIAT Diesel mpg cars they were supposed to sell?

BTW who, or WTF is actually designing automobiles today? They all look like Darth Vader Helmets with Joker-mouth grilles.

What happened to those crisp and classic designs from Farina, Italdesign, of the late 1960's and early 70s ... The Jag XJ6 up to 1982 ?.... That's what cars are supposed to look like. Clean. Classy. Not these Escalade-Ghetto-Dope-Drop-Black-on-Black misshapen behemoths and painful turd-looking sedans, with odd bulges, swells, and goofy creases everywhere.

And what is with these ridiculous $1200each wheels and tires with no sidewall (one pothole and you are out), the weird headlight thing ($500 a pop at least if you crack one, and they go cloudy in 2 months).

Engines and gearboxes are better, but it is weird to me that a Toyota Corolla needs faster 0-60 times than a 1965 Ferrari. If the American family car fleet were powered by smallish turbo-charged diesels, we would not need ANY foreign oil.

Before ‘90 it was a good car.

_________________________________________________

Perhaps because before ‘90, there wasn’t any Saturns.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturn_Corporation

In July 1990, GM Chairman Roger Smith and UAW President Owen Bieber drove the very first Saturn off the assembly line in Spring Hill, Tennessee. The brand was marketed as a “different kind of car company,” and Saturn operated outside the GM conglomerate, with its own assembly plant in Spring Hill, unique models and a separate retailer network.

Scott Burgess’ review was indicative of a biased and unprofessional media that we see on FR everyday.

Then, Detroit News altered the article to appease an advertiser....another example of the politically correct culture where everybody should be worried about “offending” someone.

This is a great example of why the MSM is dying.

The all-electric Nissan Leaf is now officially on sale, advertised as the first mass-market battery-operated car on the market. It uses no gasoline — and has no tailpipe emissions, because it has no tailpipe. And even though it's battery powered, like a golf cart, it's a real car, fun to drive, with comfortable seating for up to five people and styling that's mainstream, not quirky like some of the hybrids and earlier electric cars. For many, this even will be a practical car, one that can meet their everyday transportation needs — especially if they live, work and shop within a small...

I have a Ford. A 2003 Focus.

Once I get a new car (scouring repo auctions for bargains) I’m going to set my Ford on fire, roll it into the ocean, and never sit in a god damn Ford as long as I live.

Not even as a passenger. Not under any circumstances.

Everything on this car has broken at least twice.

The driver’s side door doesn’t open from the outside, but that’s not really a big deal because the driver’s side window is stuck down. I live in Florida. Guess what it does in Florida three hours a day, every day?

I had to go to get something or another fixed on it (honestly, I can’t remember what it was, there’s so many things to choose from) and the Ford Guy said to me, “Yeah, the 2003 was just a terrible year for these cars.”

Thanks for letting me know about this after it’s paid for. Couldn’t have let me know when I got the damn thing?

I’m pretty sure the salesman didn’t steer me away from it because, when I got it, he:

a. Saw a guy in his mid-to-late-teens;
b. Tried to push me into a Mustang;
c. Got kind of butthurt when I let him know that Mustangs are chick cars and I wanted something I could put stuff in.

What was I saying? Oh yeah. Never ever ever ever ever get a Ford.

It's a review. It's supposed to be biased. An un-biased review doesn't do anybody any good.

"Chrysler sells car" isn't a review, it's just news. "Chrysler sells new car and it sucks" isn't unprofessional, it's... just a review.

the whole ‘imported from detroit’ thing is a clever marketing strategy. I give ‘em that.

However there will be unexpected connotations to that, and for some people who know what’s going on in detroit, it will be negative. Detroit is muslim country. ‘imported from detroit’ may be more apt than the slick ad makers bargained for.

The car is butt ugly. Sebrings at least in the beginning when they were just two-seaters, were decent looking (have no idea of reliability or performance). This version just does not look good. There is nothing about it that makes someone say they have to have this car.

Perhaps biased is the wrong word, consider it to be “objective” instead. For example, after your statement about Fords, I would not ask you to write a review about one. If you did write a good review of a Ford, then I’d think that either you were paid off or that the car must be fantastic if it could overcome your stated hatred for the brand. That is the risk of being biased and something folks in the reviewing business would want to avoid.

Oh. Well, yeah, writers recuse themselves (or get assigned something that won’t present a conflict of interest) all the time.

If the Chrysler is, in fact, a dog, then maybe they should have built a better car. Don’t want it in the paper? Don’t let it happen.

Well, it seems the reviewer praised the same vehicle in another "review".

Scott Burgess Found A Chrysler He Likes… It’s Called The Sebring

I hope you can now see that many "reviewers" do no such thing except pander to their audiences.

Back in late summer of '97, I was at a golf course that was raffling off a '98 Cadillac Catera during a ladie's league outing. This thing was not much bigger than the Buick Regal of the time. Its development was based on the Opel Omega with a V6, 3.0 litre, 200 hp "power plant". I was shocked by the sticker price on it at over 37K. That would be nearly 15 years ago.

I’m not sure I understand your point. Is your point that his reviews shouldn’t change between 2007 and 2011?

Because if that’s what you’re saying, I’m not sure what to tell you. All I know for sure is that he liked the ‘08 Sebring and he hates the ‘11 200, but other than the fact that they’re both Chryslers... I’m sort of confused.

The Sebring and 200 are the same vehicle....that is the point. He praises it as a Sebring, but bashes it as the 200.

Do you understand now?
