New York is on track to receive billions of dollars in high speed rail funds.

The Obama Administration has designated the Northeast Corridor as a federally-recognized high speed corridor.

This allows states in the area to apply for $2.4 billion in federal grants, which were made available after the governor of Florida turned them down.

It will also allow Amtrak to be in on the planning process.

In order to be eligible for the money, states must show an ability to reduce energy use, improve the efficiency of their transportation network, and generate sustained economic growth.

Local lawmakers applauded the move, calling it an engine for job creation.

Applications are due on April 4.

Spreading the wealth. A little insurance premium for the new governor.

And the unions are salivating at all the graft coming their way.

I suppose it is possible they could actually put the money to halfway good use. Lotta sheep there in the coastal provinces that need moving to the same places day after day.

$2.4 billion in federal grants,

Put it towards the 14 trillion dollar debt. PLEASE!!!! I am so sick and tired of spending money on things that are unnecessary at this time. We will never pay this debt off if we keep giving out money.

And then we’ll have to subsidize it FOREVER. These toys and their tracks have to have an operator, tracks have to be cleared on a regular basis and they’re going to stop in different towns??

CT plans to build a high-speed link from New Haven to Springfield. Apparently there’s a push to increase immigrant enrollment at Yale.

It sounds like a good idea.

Used to be work to run the ba$tards out of town on a rail.

To do it efficiently and quickly on ‘your’ dime is a win-win.

The only high speed is the speed at which the cash will disappear.

LOL Dunbass. If those States could do any of those things they would not NEED the money - they would be exploding into economic growth, not begging like drunken winos panhandling on the street corner.

The biggest mistake General George Washington made was not burning that den of traitors, snakes and rats in New York City to the ground.

It’s not too late.

Look at these jerks. The arabs flew planes into the Twin Towers, and the leftists want to see a mosque at Ground Zero.

Screw these a-holes in NYC.

Anyone who has sympathy for these seditionists should join them in hell.

While I like the idea of a high speed rail system, the problem is that it’s not going to be fast enough to be an attractive alternative to flying. It’s got to do at least 240+ MPH and they are talking like 110-120 MPH.

I can get from my home town to Chicago, NYC, Philly, Boston, DC, in about an hour or so by air. By rail even at 240+ MPH it’s sill 3-4 hours travel time plus station stops. So it’s worthless for anything but recreational novelty travel.

If you need to shuffle off to Buffalo, that’s great news!

You'll note that the Obama administration has declared the entire Northeast Corridor eligible for this payoff.

Not sure where you're getting off here but it's my home and I love it. If I understand your largely incoherent rant, then my reply is, well, wait, uhmmm, did you say something?

I guess Congress has no say on this (or doesn’t care to have a say)?

The Fed should reduce welfare and unemployment $1.50 for every dollar spent on rail.

They are guaranteed to create jobs.

I managed to stay out of that city for my entire life. Up until a couple months ago when I acquired a client there.

I hate that place.
