“A caller to Rush yesterday made the observation - every foreign policy of Obama is aimed at suppressing or ousting anti Islamist forces and empowering Islamic radicals. Egypt, Libya, Iran, Israel..”
Bluntly, anyone who thinks coddling Libya and Iran is practical, much less sensible, has lost his freaking mind. And Obama hasn’t spoken up about these issues until forced to, leaving our foreign policy very muddled. He’s continued to show his characteristic cowardice and incompetence - not taking a stand on an issue until its conclusion is already inevitable.
However, we’ve made it our policy to remove middle eastern dictators for 10 years now, so it would become difficult to justify abandoning the principle at this point.
And I’ll be happy to see Gadaffi go. To an extent, I’m glad Obama has dragged his feet - it makes it more difficult for the usual suspects to say America was behind this (although I’m sure they will anyway).
I heard an interesting argument that Europe is able to invest a much higher percent of it’s GDP in social programs because we are their military back-up. We need to pressure them into carrying more of their own military burden, foot dragging helps promote this outcome. Obama is now speaking from Brazil announcing our launch of Tomahawk Missiles. He repeats we have no plans to put in ground troops. It was smart to get a unanimous vote from the Arab league.
There are 30 surface to air missile sites to take out, near Tripoli and Misrata and others. Will not take out sites near Benghazi. Saw elsewhere that Italy was now flying in addition to the French. Stationary sites will be easy to take out, the mobile ones will be the problem. Now Q’s govt. is begging UN to come and fact check. Divide and stir things up.
