Diet Coke fizzes past Pepsi (America-hating, Obama-loving PepsiCo CEO flop)
CNN Money ^ | 3/17/11 | Charles Riley

Score one for the Coca-Cola Company.

Diet Coke unseated Pepsi as the second most popular carbonated soft drink in 2010, according to data from Beverage Digest.

-snip-

The switch marks a sea change in the industry. According to John Sicher, the editor and publisher of Beverage Digest, Pepsi has held the second position "for decades."

Sicher attributed the decline in Pepsi's market share to its Pepsi Refresh Project marketing campaign, which is focused on community service.

Agreed.

It was much better when it was in glass bottles rather than plastic that effects the product. sorry to see glass go. I went with the glass, to other drinks in glass.

***I find that Coke Zero is FAR superior to any other soft drink out there. Yes, even DIET COKE...;-)***

What? No tests done with the “Smoother, rounder” flavored NEW COKE?

What a debacle!

“I don’t know anything about the CEO’s politics.”

See post #56...

America in her opinion is the middle finger.

******

Obama: the Pepsi Candidate
August 2008

the Obama-Pepsi affinity is strong. Last month, when Obama assembled a team of financial heavyweights for a summit to discuss economic issues, one of the most prominent corporate leaders in attendance was Indra Nooyi, the Pepsi CEO

she and her husband gave $27,000 to John Kerry’s campaign in 2004

According to the database operated by the Center for Responsive Politics, Pepsi employees have given $39,700 to Obama’s campaign, compared with a meager $6,000 from Coca-Cola employees

Pepsi’s advertising slogan not too long ago was “The Choice of a New Generation,” which could almost be Obama’s.

Beginning in 1940, Pepsi was almost alone in the corporate world in hiring African-American salesmen and in specifically targeting the African-American consumer, about whom there was very little reliable data. This was a risky strategy, as any company seen as overtly trying to appeal to blacks could well have found itself boycotted by Southern whites.

According to Stephanie Capparell’s 2007 book, The Real Pepsi Challenge, even Pepsi President Walter Mack—who was responsible for hiring the African-American sales team—seemed conflicted about it. At a 1949 company event at New York’s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, he told the crowd: “[W]e’re going to have to develop a way whereby [Pepsi] will no longer be known as a nigger drink,” causing at least one African-American salesman to walk out of the meeting. Nevertheless, the company continued to foster a strong relationship with African-Americans in its marketing and in its employment practices.

Chik-Fil-A has started to offer Coke Zero in my area. I haven’t developed a taste for it yet — I prefer regular or diet Coke — but I haven’t tried it too many times. I should probably sample it more often.

I have to agree that Coke Zero has the other diet colas beat, hands down. It even tastes a bit like real Coke, no not the current “classic”, but the one they used to make with cane sugar. It’s not really the same, but close.

Pepsi no longer owns KFC or Pizza Hut. In 1997, Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco Bell were spun off and operate as Yum! Brands, Inc. They have since acquired Long John Silver’s and A&W All-American Food. However in January of this year, Yum announced plans to see A&W and Long John Silvers, leaving us to wonder what will happen with the dual franchise owners.
The great majority of the stores have a contract for Pepsi products although some older stores are grandfathered to sell Coke if that was their original supplier and the owner did not want to switch. A&W soda is owned by Dr Pepper, so they sell a non Pepsi product in those restaurants.
Thanks to the Colonel, KFC has a strong franchise owners group, who have a lot of input in how the company is run.
BTW...My daughter-in-law is a franchisee.
So if you do not want to support Pepsi, just order iced tea when you have your chicken, pizza, fish, or tacos. ;)

I get a reaction to aspartame - I can’t tolerate the stuff.

If the reaction you experience was caused by the aspartame, you would get a much more violent reaction from eating a piece of chicken with a glass of red wine, or apple juice, or orange juice, or red grape juice or tomato juice.

No, I am fine with Coq Au Vin.

But I am intrigued, what is a common side effect of chicken consumed with red wine or those particular juices?

Hey, knock yourself out with Aspartame - I can’t go near it anymore, I used to consume it in the 80’s. I can’t eat the sugar alcohol products either anymore (sorbitol, etc) and I used to love imitation crab, now I can’t touch it...

Aspartame is comprised of three components: Phenylalanine, aspartic acid and methanol.

An aspartame sweetened beverage (12 oz.) contains 90 mg. of phenylalanine, 72 mg. of aspartic acid and 18 mg. of methanol.

A 4 oz. piece of chicken offers 1130 mg. of phenylalanine and 2570 mg. of aspartic acid. A glass of tomato juice offers 107 mg. of methanol.

If the aspartame is causing the reaction you experience, eating a 4 oz. piece of cooked chicken with a 12 oz. glass of tomato juice is really going to bring you some serious pain.

All of the many afflictions blamed on aspartame would also have to occur from simply eating chicken with a glass of fruit juice or a glass of red wine. It's not happening. Aspartame mistakenly gets blamed for causing all sorts of problems.

Well, we can sit down over a Chicken sandwich and discuss this further - I’ll have a V-8 - you can have the Diet Coke.

I can’t consume Aspartame, I’m not chicken-little lying - I can’t eat the stuff anymore. I’ve consumed it be mistake over the past 25 years - and there’s no mistake when I do. Pot luck desserts at functions have slammed me on more than one occasion, it’s not pleasant...to find out later “Oh I made that, it’s healthy - I didn’t use real sugar” Ugh......

Shareholders need to sue her for violation of her fiduciary responsibilities, and people in general need to harass her ever move until the stress and strain causes her to drop stone cold dead.

BTW, I really like Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi, and also drink Diet Mountain Dew (or the caffeine-free version of the latter, yes, there is a caffeine-free version of both MDs).

However, the best diet pop is Splenda Diet Coke.

Nah, I know the real communist is the boss who insists on having Diet Pepsi stocked. ;-)

The stores around here don’t carry Splenda Diet Coke, but I did find some online.

You’re right; it is the best.
