Ah, here we go. Never wastes a crisis, that one.

Always at the forefront a tentative position taken only after he has been assured of the outcome. If he throws nuclear under the bus, he looses GE, Duke Energy and Exelon money, but will it please George Soros?
It’s kind of like watching his probe the gun rights issue. Wait a month. Try a balloon on the hill. Pitch out a trap for the NRA and now try a closed door meeting with his henchmen to see if they can regulate around the Constitution. There is an enemy agent in the white house.

Well, this is a natural reaction to Japan but why do I get the feeling Obama will use this crisis as a way to shut down existing reactors and absolutely close the door on any new construction?

Anybody want to take odds?

You mean that his brilliant administration has not been doing this on a regular basis? Oh, that’s right; the inspectors are probably union so the inspections are pencil-whipped.

Gad, another industry that will be bogged down in the court system for years. As if it hadn’t been stopped cold over the last decades anyway.

"President Barack Obama is calling for a comprehensive safety review at the 104 nuclear reactors in the U.S. in the wake of the Japanese disaster."

What is this; about the millionth anal exam of the nuclear power industry by the enviro-nazi kooks in the federal government?

Safety reviews are already done by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

This is an attempt to give a few more cushy jobs to Obama cronies and then, no matter what the findings, shut down the plants.

In their eyes, the only people who need or deserve gas, food, electricity, and other “conveniences, are the leftists in power. The rest can either toil for their pleasure or die.

You have to make sure Nuke plants are ABSOLUTELY SAFE......We've had so many deaths from accidents from these plants like 3 mile island etc.

No other energy producing processes has caused near the amount of carnage as Nuclear energy. Otherwise we'd have shut those down already.

If Nuclear power plants can't withstand a 12 on the richter scale and a direct hit by a nuclear warhead or asteroid, then IMO they SHOULD NOT BE BUILT <Eco fecal freak mental defective league />

"The president is asking the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to examine nuclear plants to ensure they can withstand earthquakes and other disasters."

Wonder if that includes Yellowstone going up or the eventual meteor/comet that slams into this rock? Got plan, obi-one?

Well, at least we can be thankful he didn't go into Merkel mode and shut down the plants.

EXCUSE ME BARRY, BUT you & Boxer & all the rest of the UNIFORMED LIBS better get some education before you start mass hysteria!

What do you think the NRC does all year, sit around & eat bon bons! They are constantly watching & checking & calling for upgrades as necessary!

Watched some of C-Span last nite where Boxer wants all nuke plants built before 1980 shut down & inspected. Good luck, shut them all down, that will leave maybe ONE online to provide power. She also was freaking out about the ones in Calif. cause they are built on "faults"! What does she want them to do, MOVE THEM?

How about we just shut down all the nuke plants in Calif for good, maybe that would make her happy!!! Amazing how ill informed the people on that congressional panel are & honestly, they just don't understand an answer when it is given to them.

Need to add this, Boxer could not understand that the earthquake itself did not take out the plants in Japan, it was the tsunami that affected their ability to cool the rods!

TRANSLATION: In an effort to boost costs of electricity on households barely making ends meet, President B. Hussein Obama has ordered the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to examine nuclear plants to find any possible reason to shut them down long periods to make corrections, upgrades, or to shut down permanently.

"Too long have Americans been in warm homes with big TVs, air conditioning, computers, washing machines, hot water, while others in the world have no such conveniences. We're sorry, Mother Earth, and we're taking steps to correct these sins."

Of course he has, so he can shut them down like he did offshore drilling and then make it prohibitively costly to start them back up.

Why waste this time.

Why not skip to the chase and order a shutdown and dismantling of all nuclear plants.

We won’t need them in Obama’s vision of America.

To keep things in perspective: Japan has 55 operating nuclear power plants. They just experienced a Richter 9.0 earthquake and a tsunami. Of those 55 plants, one (ONE) is in trouble. Not to minimize the seriousness of the problems at Fukushima Daiichi, but that is a pretty d—n good safety record.

We need only to look at whose fault it is that most of our nuclear plants are 40 years old!!!! HELLO!!! Just as with everything else, the government screwed up again!
