Back in the early 80’s when the Coast Guard sent me to a cutter in beautiful Kodiak Alaska the only radio was NPR. Hated it. After a couple years a local AM country station went on the air. It wasn’t stereo but it sounded wonderful to my ears! Yee ha!
I actually like classical and jazz and can't stand listening to NPR because they pick the weirdest, dumbest stuff the nobody in their right mind would listen to on purpose. It is all picked for ivory tower intellectual, elite reasons - such as the gender of the composer or the color of the composer's skin - and has little to do with music for music's sake.
It makes me nervous listening to it and the classical experience especially should be just the opposite. And they NEVER play joyous music. It is all squeaky chamber crap. I swear they are trying to kill the classical music experience in America and, based on the health of the symphony orchestras, they are succeeding. This is a tragedy and I'm not exaggerating.
