The gate readings are worthless since the gate is located several hundred meters to the west, upwind of the plant. How about the down wind readings since the smoke, vapor (and radiation) are going out to sea?

You just had an 9.1 earthquake that killed tens of thousands of people. The sum total of people who will die from the nuclear plant will perhaps crest a hundred or two over time.
What I know as an engineer is that the light bulbs will go off on our civilization without nuclear (solar is a joke). If the panic stricken anti-nukes had gotten out of the way forty years ago we would now be on modular third-plus and fourth generation reactors that don’t have these problems.
So pardon me if I don’t get too concerned. By the way, I wrote 174,000 word book on Yucca Mountain, so I’ve already done my part to try to edumcate people.
