Chinook helicopter just dropped water on #3!
00.47 Operators at Fukushima plant hope to run an electricity cable to the site that could help pump water needed to cool reactors and spent fuel rods that have been overheating by the end of today.
Tokyo Electric Power Co. officials also said that radioactivity levels at the Daiichi nuclear facility, around 240 kms (150 miles) north of Tokyo, were declining.

A JSDF helicopter is on standby about 20km from the Fukushima site, awaiting rad reports that may let them take off and drop water

Dumping the water by helicopter is good.
That they need to do it by helicopter is not good.
Really... hmm... Have not heard that one yet. Not even close. I assume the source of that statement is in the article. I'll take a quick look
Egypt won't meet with her.
Has our allies in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain laugh at her.
Be a third wheel with Obama to Rio before we are at the level of a Third World Country.
On CNN they are showing it now. The water is pretty much blowing away before it gets to the reacter building.
That they have been cleared to do it is good. It means that the radiation levels have dropped. They weren’t allowed to yesterday.
And Reaganez, my last post was actually for milwguy. By accident it went to you
Nonsense.
Yes, this is serious.
However, you are being very dramatic.
It is not THAT bad.
I’m not sure I understand the purpose of this. Is this to resupply the spent fuel pools, or to attempt to cool the outside of the reactor containment vessel, which seems like it would be pointless.
Yeah they were talking about doing this a few days ago.
Guy on NHK just said the spent fuel pool is 15 meters deep. Given the dispersal of the water drops by propwash and wind, a lot of water is going to be needed to top that tank off.
Lead plates on the bottoms of the helos, dosimeters to monitor radiation dosage, and protective clothing for those in the helo, according to your source.
Nope, the source is me. If the fuel rods start on fire and the wind is blowing to the south, you could have MAJOR problems. The wind has thankfully been blowing mostly from west to east and out over the ocean.
If reactor #3, the one where a lot of white smoke has been coming from goes, big problems because the morons loaded MOX fuel in that reactor. Start emitting a lot of plutonium (deadliest substance known to man), which has a half life of 24,100 years I think. Start blowing some of that up into the air if reactor 2 loses containment and you have a stiff wind from the north, and it is the worst possible scenario.
all booked for st. patty’s day?
(sorry, bit of dark humor there...)
Notice how a helicopter appears to be standing by to come in and make a drop above steam clouds.
They will cool off the reactors, thing will be just fine. Think of how many died at 3 mile island, 3 times that number will die from these nuke plants.
