As World Burns, Obamas Take Kids on Taxpayer Funded Rio Spring Break Vacay

While American ally Japan faces the world's worst nuclear power disaster in decades on top of a 9.0 earthquake and apocalyptic tsunami, the Middle East is in flames and the U.S. facing bankruptcy, Barack Obama is trying yet again to take his daughters on a taxpayer funded Spring Break trip overseas.

Last year, Obama scheduled a family trip with no diplomatic importance to Indonesia and Australia timed to his daughters' Spring Break from the elite Sidwell Friends School. That trip was cancelled at the last minute, which still cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in squandered advance planning expenditures, when Obama was pressured by Democrats to stay in Washington for the healthcare bill debate in Congress and then cancel the trip again to deal with the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico months later.

This year, Obama is jetting off to Rio de Janeiro with the wife and kids on another trip timed to the girls' Spring Break at Sidwell Friends which begins on Friday, March 18. The Obamas head for Brazil that evening according to the White House (via The Chicago Sun-Times:

"On Friday evening, the First Family will travel to Brasilia, Brazil."

Obama will spend Saturday in Brasilia.

The Miami Herald reports on Obama's schedule in Rio on Sunday:

Next Sunday the president will be in Rio de Janeiro where he is expected to visit Corcovado, the peak where the landmark statue of Christ the Redeemer towers over the city, and a favela – one of the many makeshift settlements that sprawl across the hills of Rio. The military and police have recently been engaged in a pacification program to retake the favelas from drug gangs and other criminals.

Obama is expected to devote part of the day to family time but it is possible he will make a major address in Rio."

The Obamas will then head to Chile and finish the trip with an overnight stay in El Salvador.

The Obamas are scheduled to return to the White House on the 23rd. Sidwell Friends Spring Break ends on the 28th.

The Obama administration faced down questions today about the appropriateness of the trip given the global situation. Spokesman Jay Carney told reporters, "He is the president of the United States. There are major issues all the time that a president has to contend with, which is one of the reasons why he has such a substantial support framework around him when he travels."

How much would it take to get Rio to keep him there, sans Blackberry?

There are quite a few Brazilians of Japanese descent, perhaps one of them will slap him.

No doubt Brazil will hide away all the little street urchins and others who live in abject poverty. It will remind The Bama of Chicago, the place he organized straight to hell.

At this point, I think I would take Carter over Obama, at least Carter was trying to make things better. Obama is more interested in playing golf and vacationing then governing. Obama sucks as a leader and he knows it and doesn’t care. I guess he thinks “It is good go be the King”.

I was thinking the same thing. Carter was incompetent and in waaaay over his head, but I don't think he hated the country and our government as constructed by the founders. This Bozo seems to be in it for the perks. He'll just milk the taxpayer waiting for his next set of instructions from $oros. Everytime I see another WH party my mind flashes to Eddie Murphy in Trading Places.

The Japanese will see Barry frolicking in the sun and wonder why their ally has abandoned them.

Maybe he can send the Emperor an i-pod full of his speeches. He wowed them in Britain with that.

...He has generated his opponents’ ads for them, with comments about what temperature we should keep our homes at and how we should sacrifice; his own lack of tact is his undoing.

You are 1000% correct in everything you said. Unfortunately , there is the racial aspect of this regime. The MSM will deal the race card from the bottom of the deck against anyone who dares criticize "'The Won' we have been waiting for".

When $oros picked this empty suit to carry out his agenda he knew the American media and political climate well. Someone like Howard Dean or John Kerry is equally as repugnant, but by this point given the same circumstances, neither of those two would get away with it and still have the MSM carrying water for them. The first affirmative action president WILL NOT be criticized or even questioned in any meaningful way. Not by the MSM, (even Fox really) not by the Dems and not by the GOP.

In other words, have all you RINO hunters learned your lesson yet?

With all due respect, would you support another run by John McCain or Mitt Romney. We can't afford another RINO.

The first affirmative action token still has to face the secret ballot, and there is no way around that. I don’t see a resurgence of “O” stickers next year; he humiliated anyone who vocally supported him.

Ever since the Cambridge incident, where he took the enlightened view of law enforcement that is held by rappers, he knows he lost any “white guilt” support. To see black cops stand by the arresting officer, even to the point of stating that they wouldn’t vote for Obama “again”, was enough to convince the dumbest white liberal that this foreigner has an intense, irrational hatred of white people, including them.

He still has an ace up his sleeve....the “illegal” vote.

He will push for immigration reform...soon.

When it fails to pass the congress...an executive order granting amnesty will be introduced...he probably already has it drafted.

Millions of instant votes..this isn't rocket surgery.

I didn't support John McCain during the primary season in 2008. In my view, the reason he became the nominee is because conservatives could not unite behind any of the other candidates. But that is water under the bridge, and McCain will never run again. So throwing him into the mix in these discussions is just using a straw man argument.

As for Romney, I know it's heresy here on FR, but you damned well better believe I'd rather have him as president than Obama. I don't support Romney now. Don't support anyone now. It's too early, and all of our choices have yet to emerge. But when the time comes, we conservatives MUST choose wisely and rally behind whoever emerges as the strongest candidate. If we fracture into disgruntled tea parties, folks who hunt "RINOs" above all other considerations, and so on, then Obama will win a second term. Period. That's the stark truth.

I do believe Obama wants to do as much damage to this country as possible while he's in power. I also believe there's a cadre of people on the Right who want to actually assist him in doing his worst, just so they can stand around tut-tutting that it's all the fault of those dastardly "RINOs." Nothing makes the self-righteous purist feel better than to help make the result they've been warning about become reality. They get to say they were right, and get to blame everyone else but themselves for the outcome. Win-win in their minds.

It doesn't bother me when Obama goes out of country for vacations.

What bothers me is that he keeps coming back.

Obama is so bad...I actually miss Bill Clinton.

What I wouldn’t give to be a fly on the wall if our former presidents met to talk about BO’s performance.

I’d forgotten about that. Perhaps he wasn’t just punch drunk.

He is way out of his league. And perhaps he know it: Hence the escapism.
