EDITORIAL: Shipwrecked by the EPA--Regulations leave coastal economy dead in the water
The Washington Times ^ | March 15, 2011 | Editorial

Radical greens are using the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan as an excuse to peddle their wacko, pet theories and push for more stringent environmental regulation. Such efforts literally ship U.S. jobs overseas.

On Thursday, Carnival Cruise Lines announced it will move Elation from Mobile, Ala., to Port Canaveral, Fla., so the ship can spend more time in international waters. The culprit is higher fuel costs, which will be exacerbated when the Environmental Protection Agency begins enforcing tough new emissions standards next year. “The Caribbean nations southeast of Florida are not included in the [regulation] zone,” the Mobile Press-Register explained. “That means a cruise ship leaving from Port Canaveral would need to burn the cleaner, more-expensive fuel for much less time than the same ship leaving from New Orleans or Mobile.”

Carnival can’t be faulted for adapting its operations to offset new regulatory costs. Elation’s new berth is based on realistic business factors...

In our history as a nation, hundreds of thousands of Americans died so their country would be free. Our quisling Congress refuses to kill this dictatorial agency that strips people of their property and livelihood on a daily basis. This nest of enemies of capitalism should be defunded and closed permanently. Millions of Americans would cheer this blessing to our country.

It’s past time to eliminate the radical EPA. They served a purpose at one time but the agency has turned into a tool for the enviro nutjobs both inside and outside of government.

EPA is full of dumb ignorant turds who get fat Federal paychecks for hurting American businesses. Who really cares what this boats emissions are out at sea? Probably 99% of all ships in the ocean are considered polluting by the EPA

New emissions regs don’t even make sense from a tree-hugger standpoint because other nations aren’t bound by them.

Its not about enviroment at all. Obama wants go down in history as the man that sacked America and be a hero of the Third World.

The EPA is a hiring hall for eco-wackos. Sane people need not apply

Exactly, and when we get a sane president in office that appoints the top people they still have those nutjobs to contend with, just like the State Dept.

The Employment Prevention Agency should be destroyed. Before it destroys us.

Exactly. You have the same entrenched ultra liberal bureaucracy at EPA and State. A serious conservative president would demand the EPA carry out his mandates or fire those who won’t comply. This same president will have to ignore the uproar in the (mainstream) press

These Washington DC bureaucracies are liberal.... Nearly all of them are liberal or ultra liberal and stacked with AA hires

How many EPA hires come from the Sierra Club, Friends of the Earth and other such organizations? People who join such an organization have a 'perfectionist' mindset that is intolerant of what the rest of us see as practical life and law. When you come down to brass tacks, is it possible to have an "Environmental Protection Agency" that permits any kind of pollution?

By their evident logic, there is probably a sealed action plan in the Administrator's safe instructing the last EPA employee, after the environmentally-safe removal of the entire Human Race (save one), on how to properly bury their own body in the last-used safe landfill site. My guess would be to use a natural poison since any kind of weapon would be polluting!

Didn’t Bill Clinton make it practically impossible to get rid of federal staffers? As one of his last gifts to the nation....

This is going to be one of the hardest parts about the post-2012 Obama clean-up effort. I’m sure he and his people have placed a lot of Van Jones wannabes in all sorts of Federal civil service positions, and rooting them out will be quite difficult. This is part of why entire agencies need to be defunded and shut down.
