When I lived in Japan as a kid, I knew kids that made pets of their praying mantises, which as I recall were HUGE compared to the ones we have here.

I spent six years of my childhood in the Japanese islands. I recall the sewer workers playing with huge cockroaches that lived down there....with their bare hands.

Gaahhhh! And remember those cicadas? When those things came out, the huge concrete sumps filled with water for firefighting (and covered with chain link fence, which we jumped up and down on like they were trampolines!) got filled by the thousands with those green caterpillars...disgusting.
