What can I say, I'm an over-achiever.
Oh, wait, that was to cut his head off. My bad.
John (John of Gaunt, First Duke of Lancaster 1340-1399) fathered five children outside marriage, one early in life by a lady-in-waiting to his mother, and four surnamed "Beaufort" by Katherine Swynford (after a former French possession of the Duke), Gaunt's long-term mistress and third wife.
The Beaufort children, three sons and a daughter, were legitimized by royal and papal decrees after John and Katherine married in 1396, with the proviso that they were specifically barred from inheriting the throne ('excepta regali dignitate').
Descendants of this marriage included Henry Beaufort, Bishop of Winchester and eventually Cardinal; Joan Beaufort, Countess of Westmorland, grandmother of Kings Edward IV and Richard III; John Beaufort, 1st Earl of Somerset, the great-grandfather of King Henry VII; and Joan Beaufort, Queen of Scots, from whom are descended, beginning in 1437, all subsequent sovereigns of Scotland, and successively, from 1603 on, the sovereigns England, of Great Britain and Ireland, and of the United Kingdom to the present day.
The three preceding houses of English sovereigns from 1399 - the Houses of Lancaster, York and Tudor - were descended from John through, respectively, Henry Bolingbroke, Joan Beaufort and John Beaufort.
That, and $2.00, will get me a cup of coffee anywhere. :{)
A jump-off?
Toads, toads, all of her people are toads!
Yes Your Majesty, No Your Majesty.
Tell us how low to go Your Majesty.
Referring to Prince William’s bachelor party:
“It’s gotta be weird stuffing money into a stripper’s g-string when every bill has a photo of your grandmother printed on it.”
Of course, there is also the “Right of Conquest”, which is an age old declaration that “I've just killed the old king, and that makes me king. Unless you'd like to step into the ring?” e.g. William the Conqueror.
I love the Queen.
That is a considerable breach of etiquette isn’t it?
British kings were almost never dictators. They had to have the consent of the more powerful men in the realm, who generally had more wealth. Later, they had to have the consent of the Parliament.
In fact HM Elizabeth II was a natural born UK citizen, born in the UK from two UK born parents.
I’m going back to the roots of the House of Windsor.
Say 25 years/generation 670/25=26
2^26 = about 120 million ancestors.
I'm actually related to the Katherine Swynford
Really, impressive.

Tell that to William the Conqueror.

Don’t they know anything? Queens are interbred—not elected.
g-string..
hilarious!
“You need to work on making your jabs more obvious so you dont sound like an idiot.”
Thank you. I should have realized there were a few blithering idiots that wouldn’t get it.
How is a British citizen at birth, and dual-citizen, under the British Nationality Act of 1948, king of America elected??
