Earlier this AM CNN aired an exchange between a reporter stateside on the CNN set and a reporter in Japan.

The reporter in Japan was commenting on how calm and orderly everyone was while waiting in line at stores for water, food and gas.

He said that they had several full gas cans on their truck to get them where they were going and they felt comfortable leaving their vehicle unattended while going inside stores to buy food or to interview people.

He then compared it to his experiences during Katrina when their vehicle was completely looted of gas, food, water and even their personal gear and bags right under their noses.

He then said that the difference between the human response to the situation was almost night and day, the Japanese were very orderly and calm while the Katrina survivors were totally out of control.

I was amazed that CNN let him air such views. While completely truthful they show a side of our population we all know is there, but to speak of it, to even refer to it is viewed as racist...

The comparison of the Japanese People's response to this disaster to that of certain segments of the US population is instructive. It is the attitude and actions of a self reliant people to that of the base supporters of the democrat party.

Do not forget there have been many other disasters in other areas of the US where the citizens pulled together to help each other. Recall the ice storms in Kentucky when tens of thousands were without power for weeks. Obama partied with $100 a pound Kobe beef while people froze. The floods in New England, tornadoes in the mid west, fires in California and many more were met, largely, with silence from the White House and the press.

New Orleans was a press event to discredit the Bush administration. No one who lived in the area ever doubted that such a disaster would eventually befall NOLA. We all knew it. Those who did not heed the call to evacuate placed themselves in harms way. My sympathy is with those who were old, infirm who could not leave. That is the real pity.

Yes, and this theme needs to be pounded into the heads of anyone intelligent enough to listen. This BS about "diversity" being a strength is ludicrous. Yes some diversity is good. If I'm better at A then you are and you are better at B then me and someone else is better at C then either you or I , then that type of diversity can be a strength. But take to a ridiculous extreme "diversity" is the former Yugoslavia. As Lincoln said a house divided against itself cannot stand.

Someday I hope those on the lower economic situation will learn that it is not to their benefit to encourage politicians to pay for their vote. Such induces bad cultural thinking which opens them up for less opportunity and less freedom. It is what conservatives call “keeping them on the plantation.” We want them to take control of their own life’s situation by capitalizing on the available advantages they do have. For example, many an economic empire started out in someones garage.

The Japanese people are hard-working people who take care of their families, their neighbors and strangers. Listening to some Japanese people, they aren’t looking for cameras to capture *their* stories. I heard one lady say that she and her sick mother would somehow survive on little food & relief supplies, and that the focus of our attention should be on those people who are still stranded in their mangled homes.

Wish I could be there to help them.

I believe the great divide in US politics is between normal country folks vs city dwellers, including the liberal elitists and the welfare scum. Both camps are totally helpless.

I'll bet the rural Louisiana country cousins of the NOLA dirtbags behaved much like the Mississippians and the Japanese.

Thank you for your efforts to aid my home state. If not for the love, dedication, and selfless actions of good citizens from all across America, the Gulf Coast would not have survived. I mean that with all sincerity.

The church groups and citizen aid groups of America did far more good for the folks than any government agency.

Yes, you’re right the people did help themselves in Kentucky and Tennessee. It’s funny that the home grown self reliance didn’t stick in my mind the way the Christchurch clean up did.

Maybe it’s because Obama didn’t even offer to help them. It would have been nice if Obama had offered and the people of Tennessee and Kentucky could have said, no thanks, we’ve got it, ourselves.

The difference between having respect for others, and being responsible is totally lost in the population of our inner-cities (they have a “Right” to take what they want if it’s not given to them), and elsewhere, where right/wrong are no longer taught; just sensitivity-training, diversity-training, and freedom to do whatever you want, and just blame OTHERS.

Mississippi did pretty well in recovery and Florida does well with their storms. The big difference is they didn’t have a criminal Democrat governor and major city mayor and the crime organization that built up around it, to have to deal with.

There is a lot of allegory going on in this thread, and yeah, there is that too. Entitlement and blame the evil majority has freed minorities to do what they know and every human knows is wrong. Their trained hatred has destroyed their conscious. That is a terrible thing.

The old slogan, “a mind is a terrible thing to waste” should be amended to be “A conscience is a terrible thing to waste.”
