Most of us by now have heard about Anonymous. Anonymous has had its roots in various areas for a while now. Its primary targets tend to be a focused attempt at righting the wrongs of corporate monopolies and injustices that face the average person. Anonymous became a household known entity as it was exposed in its efforts to defend the operations of Wikileaks and Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. Their newest activities have revolved around shutting down various copyright agencies such as BMI as an attempt to fight back in the ongoing file sharing battle. A member of Anonymous who goes by the twitter name Operation Leaks has announced plans for releasing damning documents in the coming days that highlight corruption and Bank Of America. Operation Leaks has been teasing these Bank Of America releases via Twitter for the last several days. With operation Operation Empire State they are targeting the banking elite. The group demands Ben Berna..

This is a bit frightening to me. I understand the complaints and I understand their aim even if I don't agree 100% of their premise. What concerns me is there needs to be a transition. You cannot just topple an entire world economic banking system and not expect complete anarchy and decay. Sure I guess they would like anarchy on that kind of level. We all have our complaints of various institutions I just don't think this group understands that you cannot in an instant do something this large and not effect everyone including yourself in the process. I respect peaceful protests but this seems like it could hurt many if they are successful and that to me is not peace.

Anonymous ???

Anonymity on the web does not exist. The illusion of anonymity will not last long.

That is what they call themselves. I have no idea if technically they can remain anonymous or not. I have no computer skills.

It is simply economic terrorism and should be responded to as such.

I would have to agree it is terrorism. The question if they can do this anonymous or not. I have no idea.

I’m more or less okay with this. Their methods are non-violent and so far not dramatically illegal (more like the electronic equivalent of teenage mischief than serious assaults in the actions I’ve seen reported). They release information to confirm the criminal conduct of others, and their information is reliable, not forged. If they go after B of A, which accepted my tax dollars in the TARP fiasco, I will be cheering for them.

They’ll be hiding behind several proxy servers whilst going about their activities if they aren’t complete idiots, as I’m sure some of them are, but many of them aren’t...

Unfortunately, they appear to be more American than most Americans. There’s a coupla hundred bankers-at least-along with their DC stooges- that need to be on the receiving end of a courtroom proctoscopy

I disagree this is a bad thing.
How much did we give them?
On Drudge, it's saying the damage could hit 30 billion.
What is the percentage of this compared to what we gave the banksters?
QE and QE2 may go down in history as the biggest heist ever committed.

If the top ten banks toppled and their parasite bankster executives were all hung from light poles, in the long run, it would be a very GOOD thing for the economy.

Precisely! If nothing is done to bring down Bank of America then the terrorists win.

Anonymous does not seen to be one person. In any case it,them or they are world class hackers. The feds have been after them for sometime. I was served a subpoena on one of the networks we administer for information relating to an attack from Anonymous. My guys are very good and had already looked at it. One of the best and fastest attacks they had ever seen. Whoever Anonymous is they have access to very powerful hacking tools.

I honestly do not understand why so many FReepers seem to “get off” at the prospect of toppling Bank of America.

I think people want to see BAC broken up and sold off is because it is a criminal enterprise.

None of these criminals ever seems to go to jail. They just buy off the government - hell, they practically ARE the government.

Sorry, this isn't capitalism. This is reverse Robin Hood-ism.

~WASHINGTON – Bank of America entities have agreed to pay a total of $137.3 million in restitution to federal and state agencies for its participation in a conspiracy to rig bids in the municipal bond derivatives market and as a condition of its admission into the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Corporate Leniency Program, the Department of Justice announced today.

Bank of America entered into agreements with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Office of the Comptroller of Currency (OCC), and 20 State Attorneys General. The global resolution with these federal and state entities provides for payment of restitution to the IRS and to municipalities harmed by Bank of America’s anticompetitive conduct in the municipal bond derivatives market. In a related matter, Bank of America entered into a written agreement with the Federal Reserve Board to address certain remedial measures.

According to agreements announced today, Bank of America employees engaged in illegal conduct, including bid rigging and other deceptive practices, in connection with the marketing and sale of tax-exempt municipal bond derivatives contracts.

The illusion of anonymity will not last long.

Quite right, British authorities are already hunting them down. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-12299137) How long before US hunts them down. Not long, I guess.

On a personal level, I am not very fond of Assange but I stand in full solidarity with Anonymous.

It is not easy to stand in the face of big names and expose their wrongs. The institutions they are fighting are all big names and have greater clout while the guys at Anon are in all probability jus' like you and me.

I just hope that whatever they do, they do it right.
