If Republicans in Wisconsin feel like lightning rods for liberal wrath, they ought to try living in Cambridge.
Just ask Todd Hyde, who called to vent about tattered flags.
Ill tell you what its like for someone like me, a registered Republican in Cambridge, he said. One day I saw this guy who lives up the street walk over to a kid who was getting into a pickup truck. His arms began flailing, like he was very upset, but the kid just shrugged and drove away. Now the guys coming towards me. At the time I was working for FedEx, so Im guessing he saw my shirt and figured I was a blue-collar Democrat.

Were these folks who got on a flag waving kick a few years ago then simply forgot about them like a stubborn patch of crabgrass?
They must be into conserving water in Cambridge because the citizens tend to have a disheveled appearance.
While I have always flown a flag on holidays, I have flown it daily since my son went overseas. He has been home for years now, but still the flag flies daily.
It is replaced when necessary and the old one is given to the Boy Scouts for proper disposal.
This is one of my biggest peeves. It’s not limited to leftists. I live in an area that is largely conservative-leaning. Still, I see tattered & torn flags all over the place (Tho I admittedly look for them because it irks me). No lights on the flags at night. Flags up in blizzards and storms.
I don’t personally fly a flag. Specifically because I know that it can sometimes be a pain in the ass to fly it with the respect it is due. But to fly a shredded rag that was once a U.S. flag not only does not show patriotism, it reeks of utter disrespect. May as well wipe your butt with it.
A couple years ago, I was walking into a public middle school for a weekend activity. As I was entering the building, I looked down and realized I was stepping on something red and white. It looked an awful lot like part of a flag. Looking up I saw the remains of a UNITED STATES FLAG. Absolutely SHREDDED on the flagpole of a public SCHOOL. (Yes I’m yelling)
I called the moron, I mean Principal the next day. Apparently no one had looked at the flag for at least a year. This doofus was so dense about the American values he is supposed to be TEACHING that he didn’t even know where to get a flag.
He actually asked if he had to contact his Congressman to get a flag.
Wal-Mart was my reply. To his credit, it was replaced very quickly. I hope he learned a lesson.
It reminded me of a time when standards of respect were just generally understood.
Fast-forwarding to today, I looked again at that flag in the park, ripped along its stripes, and found it so emblematic of where we are right now.
This says it all.
