A rush of recent reports on energy has much to say about the fundamental foolishness of the green vision of energy production -- the vision long regnant in academia and the one that informs the Obama regime.
The green vision -- really, the green dream or delusion -- is that the world is running out of fossil fuels, and we need to switch to so-called renewable/sustainable sources such as solar power, wind power, and biofuels. (These "renewable," allegedly low-pollution green options never include nuclear or hydroelectric power, both of which are proven to be cost-effective and clean -- an interesting point to which I will return shortly.) If we just embrace these "new" energy sources, the greens aver, why, jobs will just multiply like squirrels on speed. But if we continue to use fossil fuels, we are doomed to economic stagnation.
The first report is the happy news that the number of new American oil wells is increasing at a pace not seen in over three decades.
According to the major oil drilling company Baker Hughes, the number of new oil rigs it has installed is over 800 last year -- over twice last year's total, and a tenfold increase over the yearly average during the late 1990s.
These rigs are placed to tap so-called "unconventional reservoirs" found squeezed into shale rock strata. Ten years ago, these shale oil reservoirs were written off, but the increase in oil prices and in the level of oil-drilling technology has now opened them up.
The story mentions several promising shale oil fields, including the Eagle Ford formation (stretching from southern Texas into northern Mexico), the Bakken formation (in North Dakota) and the Monterey formation (in California). These formations currently produce about half a million barrels a day. It is now projected that production...

Run by a bunch of scam artists.
Nukes of today’s designs are nice and clean unless smacked by something really humongous. (What’s happening in Japan right now is a sobering warning, though to be fair that was known to be a seismically prone region and close to the coast.) The used fuel can, as France has shown, be kept in a fairly small chamber on site until it has cooled enough for practical handling.

He made a billion off of the globull warming panic, which almost surely is the earth simply doing on its own the same kinds of things the earth did on its own before man could only light campfires.
which (at $90 a barrel) is $175 billion less that we give foreign dictators terrorists.
We fund our own demise.
EXACTLY!
The delusional "greenies" in the streets and colleges dream of a green utopia powered by unicorn gas and good vibes.
But the politicians and financiers with the power and the money are in it for more power and more money. They know the greenies are fools but are happy to use them and profit from them.
The real power and money behind the green movement will drop it like a poison snake the minute it ceases to be profitable.
One day, Tipper will break her silence her shyster husband. No other “celebrity” divorce has been ignored like this one has been.
She probably got a 100 Million a confidante agreement.
An offer she couldn’t refuse.
First the idiots tell us there won’t be enough food to feed the world’s population, then the say to start burning it in our cars!? ? ! ? !
Same idiots say, “Everybody buy electric cars”, but the power plants we have now just barely keep us on the edge of brownouts in the hot summertime. No new power plants.
Same idiots: “Redistribute the wealth. Close down those big, bad companies.” What wealth? You eventually run out of other peoples’ money.
In the days of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher we actualy would hear sanity - things that mad sense.
Oh, and the same imbeciles say “Get us off foreign oil (but don’t drill here)”.
I apologize for the hasty misspelling. I hope it doesn’t ruin your Saturday morning.
These stocks must be skyrocketing with the Japan news.
If you want to talk about a game changer, it’s going down in Japan right now. We thought we knew, but on this one, it looks like the greenweenies might have been right.
Building nukes on a fault line is a violation of common sense, not just green crap.
But now they’ll fight them tooth and nail even in Kansas or Nebraska, anywhere, regardless of geology
Things could get interesting in eastern Tennessee where TVA restarted construction to complete Watts Bar Nuclear Plant unit #2 a year or two ago. The unit was mothballed back in the 80’s or early 90’s after the mass hysteria caused by the Three Mile Island event effectively shut down the US’ nuclear construction program.
Anyway, they’re well on their way to completing the project but I suspect a throng of brain-dead tree huggers will be converging on eastern TN soon. I think they deserve a good old fashioned Appalachian welcome.

History repeats. The same thing happened with "Synfuels," instigated by Carter in the 70's. Reagan pulled the plug finally a few years later but not before some 60 Billion (with a B) was totally sucked up and wasted. And that was when a billion dollars was a lot of money.
This "alternative fuels" fetish has been obsessing the leftwing 'rats for over 30 years, untold billions rat-holed, and nothing to show for it. Nada Nichts Zero Zilch. It's criminal I tell ya.
I once heard lefty icon Ralph Nader say, about 20 years ago, “We are floating on an ocean of oil.”
Even the original green freak himself knew the truth.
Speaking of Green Poop, I got off MSN Messenger with an old flame a few minutes ago. She has been a realtor in Malaga, Spain for several years. Spain is the greenest country in Europe and also has the highest unemployment.
My realtor friend gave me some examples of properties in prime locations. Selling for around 60% of 2008 prices. To buy, no money down. Pay closing costs only. Interest rate 2.9% with decent credit and 2000 Euros/month income.
Regardless, ALMOST NOTHING IS MOVING.
