Some California surfers rode high water from a tsunami caused by the Japanese earthquake, while other beaches were closed.
In Santa Cruz, it was a typical good day for surfing before the water pulled out of Monterey Bay toward the Pacific Ocean when the tsunami hit.

Around 8:10 a.m., within seconds, the water dropped by about 9 feet as the harbor turned into a river as water was sucked out to sea.”
These surfers have to be completely brain dead. The water drops by 9 feet and they aren't worried?
Wow.
There is a Tsunami for SoCal too but they are not expecting high waves, maybe 3 feet at most..watching the waters in Ventura Harbor, even Marina Del Rey..of course the surfers are out in droves for this

The surges caused extensive damage to piers and boats at Keehi Small Boat Harbor near Sand Island. The King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel got a foot of water in the lobby and canoes in the harbor were destroyed. Flooding was also reported in Kahului.
This isn’t Obama crying wolf, to be fair. They really are forecasting waves of 6-9 feet. It’s like evacuating people out of the path of a hurricane storm surge. There may be some overreaction in the media, but there’s already been significant damage in some California harbors.
