Scientific American ^ | March 11, 2011

The United States has transported coolant to a Japanese nuclear plant affected by a massive earthquake and will continue to assist Japan, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Friday.

"We just had our Air Force assets in Japan transport some really important coolant to one of the nuclear plants," Clinton said at a meeting of the President's Export Council.

Some “really important coolant”, sure. Honestly, this sounds like satire.

I don’t understand. I thought coolant for nuclear plants was water?

Any atomic energy types care to elaborate?

Encapsulated in that remark is a lot. The Secretary of State only knows what she reads - i.e., this is a really important coolant (perhaps a description more detailed than that would make you seem capable, Madame Secretary.) And the military provides a solution.

Did they ever pay us for Pearl Harbor? Have we ever been out of debt since WW II?

If our administration doesn’t believe in nuclear power, why are we sending primary reactor coolant to a country that does?

Hillary sounded like a total moron.

I suspected she is just reporting something she has no role in.
