A Coup in Wisconsin: How the Governor Got His Way
Time ^ | 3-1--2011 | Dawn Reiss

On Wednesday night, however, the protesters got some sympathy from Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney, who oversees Madison's county and who recently proclaimed that his deputies weren't "palace guards." Mahoney had the capitol doors opened Wednesday night to allow the protesters inside. However, within the capitol, state troopers from other counties were standing guard — the governor and the Republican senators well aware that Dane County police were sympathetic to the protesters' cause.

<---- snip ---->

But by Thursday, the rotunda of the capital was once again closed to protesters, some of whom were dragged out by state troopers — not local police.

I know we've had a lot of stories about the developments in Wisconsin, but I wanted to post this one as it is the only place I have seen or heard mention of the Wisconsin State Troopers who brought order to the Capitol when the local police wouldn't.

Wisconsin State Troopers inspire awe. (And they are sexy, lol.)

How he got his way??? Um, the people of Wisconsin elected him and a Republican house and senate?? Isn’t that how it’s supposed to work?

How the governor got his way...?

How about by winning the election and having his party win both houses in the state government? You know - having a majority?

I hardly call that a COUP.

Time. Has been rag.

A coup??? A COUP????

Even the idiots at Time have to stretch the facts to call it a coup when the duly elected governor of a state restores civility in the capitol, and passes legislation among duly elected representatives of the state.

Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney

Selectively enforcing the law....”palace guard.”

What is your sworn duty and did you do it?

Wow... that bias stinks all the way to here! How is it a “coup” when legitimately elected officials do the job they were elected to do?

The trooper on the right in the top picture has a nice “Don’t f—k with me” look on his face.

“Sheriff Dave Mahoney, who oversees Madison's county and who recently proclaimed that his deputies weren't “palace guards.”

Wonder what his job is then,if he doesn't know then he should be replaced..

Most of those idiots protesting are from the rent a mob who don't even have jobs except to go around causing trouble and is hired by the democrats.. after it is over they are handed their money along with a bag of pot and sent on their way....Everyone of these thugs should be made to show ID if they are not from there then put them back on their bus and send them to Obama..

Time has sunk pretty low to use the word coup regarding a legal election......did they say that about Obama and the dems when the defied the American people and passed obamacare?

The local cops should be ashamed that they walked out on their duty to serve and protect. Appalling lack of professionalism.

Thanks to all of you for making the point about Time’s bias. I was overfocused on the Troopers. So little recognition has been given to the fine job they did in keeping the lid on the Capitol on Thursday.

State Troopers inspire awe in WI. When you see that it is them chasing you on HWY 41, you pull over immediately!! And then you are very polite.

“Time” is a good reminder to Repubs that, no matter what, the dominant media will be against us in our fight to return the country to fiscal sanity.

He got his way on election day when the voters gave him republican controlled legislatures. Gave them to him to do exactly what he did.

I was at U of Iowa during the demonstrations and riots in the spring of ‘69. The Iowa Highway Patrol's professionalism got control of the serious problems and likely saved the Old Capitol building from being torched.

While they were managing things at the Pentacrest, some idiot county deputies tear gassed one of the men's dorms and created another riot featuring a thousand students who were booking for finals.

Considering the common usage of the word "coup", maybe the headline ain't so bad:

n., pl., coups (kūz).
1. A brilliantly executed stratagem; a triumph.

I’m not sure if it’s the hats or the boots, but they do have an impact on a situation:)
