Only fiscal bills need a 20 member quorum.

I can’t believe the Democrats are so stupid to let the nation become fully aware of union thuggery in Wisconsin by leaving vs losing a vote.

But then I am not a leftist.

Ummmm. Don’t the R’s need 19 to get the collective bargaining measure to pass?

They stripped out the "fiscal" portions of the bill, thus avoiding the quorum requirement.

My understanding is that the provision scraping collective bargaining on benefits is technically not “fiscal” and thus can be passed with a bare majority to make the quorum. The directly fiscal stuff, e.g., greater contributions by government workers to health plans, etc., need at least 1 Dem to make the quorum.

“Either way, passed and signed WI will become a right to work state.”

Wouldn't private-sector unions still be able to have collective bargaining? If so, WI wouldn't be a right-to-work state, it would merely be a state that won't allow union bosses and sycophantic politicians bankrupt the state.

Gov. Scott Walker this evening applauded the Senate’s actions:

“The Senate Democrats have had three weeks to debate this bill and were offered repeated opportunities to come home, which they refused. In order to move the state forward, I applaud the Legislature’s action today to stand up to the status quo and take a step in the right direction to balance the budget and reform government. The action today will help ensure Wisconsin has a business climate that allows the private sector to create 250,000 new jobs.”

Then I don’t get it. What’s changed? WHy didn’t they just do this weeks ago? If all that happened was stripping out the fiscal stuff, that could have been done long ago.

And Wisconsin will be on the way back to prosperity.

One wonders how the other cowards (elected democrat state senators from Indiana) hiding out in Obamaland are feeling tonight. Learn from Wisconsin and move quickly Indiana. Let's get a two-fer!!

The Wisconsin Democrat Senators have been given every opportunity over the past 19 days to return and vote.

By giving them 19 days to return the unionistas have no claim the legislation is unfair.
