I think the most likely case is the girl didn’t want to testify, so she accepted a plea bargain.
While I don’t think that is an unreasonable take on it, I am still left with the reality that this man jumped on top of her, straddled her body between his legs, and wailed on her with his fists.
Would you have let some guy get by with this when you were 14?

I can’t deny that’s a possibility, but it seems unlikely to me.
At the same time, people have raised the tourist factor, and I do think that your take is probably more sound than my own at this point in time.
Ultimately, I am still not convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt though.
Ultimately, I don’t have to be. I recognize what the likelihood is, and this can remain in limbo as far as I am concerned. It isn’t something that I have to be found right about, and if in the end my suggestion is wrong, it’s not that big a deal to me.
