This is a very strange story.... It's not clear to me, from the what's being reported, why Ms. Schiller would need to be ousted in response to somebody else's comments.

I can see the political angle here, though. Given the recent comments by NPR leadership about "no bias," and the congressional pressure about funding.

I guess she's just the one they elected to catch the spear.

Could be she’s the one who hired Mr. Schiller or was influential in his hiring (although he is no relation). He went to work for them in 2009. She took over in January, 2009.
