Republican Sen. Lugar to oppose House GOP's $61B spending cuts
Hill ^ | 03/08/11 | Alexander Bolton -

Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), the most senior member of the Senate Republican Conference, said Tuesday he will oppose the House-passed proposal to make drastic cuts to the federal budget.

He is the first Senate Republican to publicly state his opposition to a plan that Democrats have blasted as “reckless.”

Lugar, who is facing a Tea Party-backed challenge in the 2012 Indiana Republican primary, is taking a political risk. But he and other centrist Republicans have concerns about steep spending cuts that will eliminate funding for some federal programs in mid-year.

I just went to the link and it reports Lugar will vote for the republican bill. He claims he misunderstood the question earlier. Only thing worse than a rino is a senile rino.

Vote the RINO out anyway.

If Lugar is in his dotage the reason he hangs on is he is controlled completely by his handlers who have a big vested interest in him staying in his seat in the Senate even if he is embalmed. There have been a number of such cases especially in the Senate and its not a new thing. The most famous has to be Carl Hayden of Arizona who was completely senile and demented for the last 20 or so years he was in office. Everyone knew it and no one would say anything. Open secret, typical of Capitol Hill culture.

It’s very sad.
As I said @ post 51, Dick Lugar did some great things for Indianapolis.

Traitor. Make an example of him and run him out of the Republican party.

The RINO might be getting ready to switch parties.

Boo! Hoo!

Lugar has flip flopped and now say’s he’ll vote with the party.

No matter. State Treasurer Richard Mourdock is gonna take Lugar out in the primary. A majority of county party chairmen have already endorsed Mourdock.

How times have changed.

As an oldster, I can remember many moons ago (little Indian lingo there) when President Nixon anointed Lugar his favorite Republican politician.

Of course, in hindsight, Nixon wasn't quite the conservative I thought he was back in my ute.

Yup, Tricky Dick only looked conservative next to liberal trash like Jack Kennedy and Nelson Rockerfeller.

So a young Daniels followed a prominent local Republican into politics. He parted ways with Lugar in 1982. “Runt,” really? Is this the best you can do?

“I misunderstood the question” is codespeak for “OMG, my phone system just melted.”

If Mourdock runs, he has my support. I’ll oppose Lugar in the primary even if he has only token opposition.

Mourdock has announced.

Do you have some info that says he’s wavering?

I missed the announcement too but he IS running, already announced, and claims support from 75% of Country GOP Chairs.

Go easy on the huge pics of the best thing since sliced bread (sort of like what the ragheads do).

And pretty soon a real right wing candidate will correct the GOP in referring to its candidates and states controlled as "Red"

Red is for communists, and up until very recently, retarded RNC Chairmen and Fox News hosts.

Bet he doesn't make it to the end of this term before he resigns from the Senate and checks into some sort of hospital.

Lugar has now reversed his field and will support the cuts. He even said he would prefer the cuts be even deeper.

So, in the space of one hour, between entering the caucus room and exiting, he did a 180.

Claimed he hadn't understood the question...

Either senile...or desperate...

Good for you! It took me a year of mailing back their “surveys” and berating them over the phone, but they finally got the message that I’m not giving to the RNC in its current “configuration.” The Club for Growth (they’re the guys who RIFFed Bennett in Utah last year) are “taking a hard look at Lugar and Hatch. These two a$$holes joined the Senate on the same day ( Jan 3, 1977) so they’ve been there for 34 years! If they stay any longer they’ll be having wheel chair races in the Senate chamber. Time for both of them to go!
