Republican Sen. Lugar to oppose House GOP's $61B spending cuts
Hill ^ | 03/08/11 | Alexander Bolton -

Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), the most senior member of the Senate Republican Conference, said Tuesday he will oppose the House-passed proposal to make drastic cuts to the federal budget.

He is the first Senate Republican to publicly state his opposition to a plan that Democrats have blasted as “reckless.”

Lugar, who is facing a Tea Party-backed challenge in the 2012 Indiana Republican primary, is taking a political risk. But he and other centrist Republicans have concerns about steep spending cuts that will eliminate funding for some federal programs in mid-year.

“He is a goner, for sure. He must know this will cost him his seat.”

To the contrary most Hoosiers aren’t paying attention to this ass wipe! He has slithered under the radar for the past 20 years and his voting record has never been challenged by the media here is Indiana. Lugie really thinks he can belittle the Tea Party folks and still win reelection. I sure as heck hope he’s wrong.

The Republicans can just say no. Pass the budget we give you or shut down the government for the next two years.

The time for hard choices is now.

I oppose the bill because the cuts are too small.

I hope that Sen. Lugar will retire and that he’ll be replaced by Gov. Daniels.

We won the House and that's awesome, but we didn't get the Senate

If by "we" you mean conservatives, I'm not so sure we won the House either.

Daniels is term limited.

He’ll either wind up as a cabinet sec for a Republican POTUS or in industry or a think tank if Baraq wins again.

(Beep, beep, beep) He's backing up ...

GOP Sen. Lugar says he'll support House Republican spending cuts

Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), who faces a Tea Party-backed challenge in his 2012 primary, has withdrawn his stated opposition to House-passed spending cuts.

Lugar said Tuesday afternoon that he made a mistake when he told reporters earlier in the day that he would oppose H.R. 1, the House GOP plan to cut an additional $57 billion from the 2011 budget.

“I’m going to vote with the Republicans on the issue when H.R. 1 comes up,” Lugar said. “If it’s strictly an affirmative vote, I will be for H.R. 1 because all the Republicans will be voting for H.R. 1.” ...
Spine of a jellyfish, that Dick Lugar ...

I’m not sure it’s lack of spine, it may truly be old age.
Why he doesn’t hang it up is beyond me.

Even if we had ‘won’ the Senate, ‘crap’ like this would continue to happen with the likes of Lugar, Collins, Snowe, Graham ...

Yes. I want each to be ‘toast’ in their next potential elections, Lugar-Senate and Daniels-POTUS.

Why is it that almost all the time getting the repubs all on the wagon together is like trying to herd cats?

What is that truthful saying? Straight from the jaws of victory....................

The source the Hill another Obama administration MSM Apparatchik writes “centrist”

Just say it like it really is - Sellout, brown noser. A repub that has been caught with his head up Obama’s butt. His contender in 2012 is a TEA Party candidate. Sen Lugar do America a favor go sit on a pitch fork, with the forks extended upwards.

maybe he would get the same feeling the American people get, the pitchfork in the butt.

Wonder how much senators and house representatives have to make the decision lay-offs or paycuts.

the part of my business that I hate, having to lay someone off. see what all my options are before letting anyone go on layoff.

Conservatives had a great November, but it will DEFINITELY take a few more election cycles to get rid of all the baggage.

The time for hard choices is now.

Totally agree and since 61 Billion is causing an MSM outrage, the House should have just voted on a 500 Billion cut and received the same outrage.

I think conservatives made the difference and put republicans in the majority in the house.

But I also think that career republicans spend more time figuring out how to sideline conservatives than they spend trying to defeat democrats.

Yet, we still have Murkowski...

Kiss his RINO-behind goodbye!

We will see. Since I don't know IN politics I'm shooting from the hip but RINO or not, an entrenched pol usually pulls it out with the power & money. How that happens is totally confusing, except that's usually the outcome. I hope that fake grin he has all of the time turns to be a big frown next election.
