Believes U.S. Must Limit Consumption of Meat to Alleviate Global Hunger (Moonbats gone Wild!)
The San Leandro Times ^ | 3-3-11 | San Leandro Times

Editor:

The popular revolutions we are witnessing in the Middle East, while inspired by a desire for personal freedom and self-determination, are certainly sustained by a pervasive hunger pan-demic, particularly among the world’s less privileged populations.

Since last December, skyrocketing demand for food and dwindling supplies have driven the global Food Price Index to new records. Supplies have suffered from catastrophic floods and droughts linked to global warming and from gradual depletion of groundwater aquifers. Demand has been fueled by unchecked population growth and by diversion of massive amounts of grains into biofuel and meat production.

Hunger afflicts nearly one billion people worldwide, mostly women and children. It feeds massive popular migrations and unrest that, sooner or later, will affect us all.

Some of the causes of global hunger are beyond our personal control. But, as the world’s highest meat consumers, we have a special obligation to free up some grains for the hungry by limiting our own consumption.

With the broad availability of delicious and nutritious meat and dairy alternatives in every supermarket, there is no reason to delay. Entering “live vegan” in a search engine returns lots of good guidance.

I do not go anywhere near the editorial section of the San Leandro Times. The stupidity exhibited there is mind numbing.

Tyrants are the major cause of food problems.

What do you think HR2748/S.510/HR2751 FDA Food Takeover Bill passed in the Lame Duck Session and signed into law by Obozo was all about? Just wait and see the consequences. 1.4 billion dollars cost, 17,000 new FDA food inspectors and the "costs" are paid for by producers fees? If you are hungry in the U.S., don't blame a farmer blame the lying POLs who sold us out to Global Ag for a few piece of silver.

Each to their own.....I started eating the Caveman diet....if I stay away from flour based products and don’t eat much dairy...my cholesterol improved - in fact my doc says I have “ratio’s people would die for”...and I’m never hungry. People are different.

You are extremely rare my friend. There is definite direct link from eating meat and heart disease. Indeed, a high fat diet is the number one indicator of getting heart disease. If your cholesterol is over 150 it is too high...regardless of what your doctor may say.

Yeah....kinda....but, I don’t eat much fruit (sugars). And, I shouldn’t be eating as much dairy as I have been. Lots of eggs. And raw nuts. And, organic meat....as long as we can afford it..it IS different.

Do you know the ratios of your various cholesterol levels? Ldl, Sdl, Triglycerides, Total,etc....? That’s what I believe matters. I also have regularly power walked for 25 years....which may have something to do with it, too. My Total cholesterol went UP, but does not worry me or my doc. I think it’s around 215. I think there is more a direct link between flour based products and sugars to heart disease than meat...but, that’s just me (and my doc - Jonathan Wright, MD, ND) Course, my family has a susceptibility to Type 2 diabetes...which wreaks havoc on the body.

“If your cholesterol is over 150 it is too high...regardless of what your doctor may say.”

Uhh, that may have been the consensus for much of the latter half of the 20th century, but a better understanding of the basic biochemistry of different forms of cholesterol has shown that to be INCORRECT.

High density lipoproteins actually REDUCE the overall incidence of arteriosclerosis. Blood serum levels BELOW 60mg/dl are actually linked with higher risk of MI and ischemic stroke.

A favorable ratio of HDL to LDL is FAR more important in most individuals than total level of cholesterol. If in doubt, use common sense and perform more detailed assays of arterial condition in order to get a detailed, realistic assessment of your current risk factors.

I’m not going to ration my consumption of anything to alleviate hunger in Africa. They need to stop being charity cases and learn to fish, instead of begging for a free fish every day around supper time. And when they do get that fish in their bellies they need to think of something else besides breeding. That’s how cockroaches survive, not human beings.

Shouldn't we increase our consumption of meat, leaving more vegetables and bread for the earth-friendly types?

“Second - GMO grains do great things for stopping people from starving to death. Until the holier than thou crowd stops pitching a fit about protecting the natives from the GMO nightmare that is making life good in the first world - people are going to keep starving.”

GMO grains are patented, and equal pollen-flying lawsuits. I have no problem with the existence or cultivation of GMO grains: it is the lawsuits that companies like Monsanto file against farmers because the farmers find their crops have been ‘tainted’, accidentally crossed with GMO crops, which are patented.

"The popular revolutions we are witnessing in the Middle East, while inspired by a desire for personal freedom and self-determination, are certainly sustained by a pervasive hunger pan-demic..."

What? Leaving aside that pandemic is one word, or that as a noun it refers specifically to disease, not famine, have you seen a single person claim that this rebellion is really about food? This is just fabricated rubbish.
