A couple weeks ago there was a item that magma had risen and inflated Kilauea volcano at the top, at Halemaumau crater.
It subsided but caused a collapse at the top and all that magma went down to Pu'u O'o and then down a lava tube.....which also collapsed causing the latest spectacular eruption.
Kilauea is the top, Pu'u O'o is a vent and the lava tube from it was a underground conduit down slope where the lava would flow into the sea. The news services are ecstatic to have film of a fiery eruption instead of steam rising from the shore.
Madame Pele is just having a little conniption fit...not a full blown rage.
