I believe the father (Paul)died about a year ago while playing tennis.
The Van der Sloot parents raised a monster and they knew it.

100 years... in with the general prison population. Nothing less.

Joran wishes he had been convicted in Aruba and spent prison time under the Netherlands system instead of facing prison in the Peruvian system.
40 years or so in a Peruvian prison is probably not very nice.

Defendant: I plead insanity.
Bailiff: Insanity???
Defendant: Yes, insanity...I’m was CRAZY about that girl!

Yes,
But i fear to endanger my own soul even to express what I really think should be done to him.
Besides, it might get me banned at FR,
But, I could be satisfied with hanging. It’s the minimum

Van der Sloot isn't going to weasel on this. The insanity defense won't wash. He's going to do hard time. Whether it is in the general prison population — and he won't survive a year there — or in solitary confinement where his death is far slower — he's dead man walking.

Thanks for the ping. Didn’t he originally claim he didn’t do it, or is my memory playing tricks?

I sincerely suspect that “temporary insanity” is not a highly respect defense strategy in Peru!
I doubt that his attorney believes this is a good defense - but maybe his only defense!!

Thanks for the ping. I hope the “temprary insanity” plea will not work.
