KARLSRUHE, Germany U.S. Senior Airman Nicholas J. Alden was standing outside of a bus at Frankfurt airport when a young man first asked him for a cigarette, then whether he was bound for Afghanistan.
When Alden answered yes, the man fatally shot him, point blank, in the back of the head, then stormed aboard the bus shouting "Allah Akbar" Arabic for "God is great." He shot and killed Airman 1st Class Zachary R. Cuddeback, who was at the wheel, then shot and injured two others, German authorities said Friday.
The gunman, identified as Arid Uka, a 21-year-old Kosovo Albanian, then pointed his FN 9mm pistol at yet another airman seated on the bus. "He pointed his pistol at his head and pulled the trigger twice, but the pistol jammed and no shots came out," prosecutor Rainer Griesbaum told reporters in Karlsruhe.
Jammed, empty shell casings prevented the weapon from firing again

Yes sorta. If the average Joe is an upstanding citizen with no priors, well liked in the neighborhood and judged as a reputable character, he can get a license to obtain a gun if he has a need for it. Most people fail these criteria as is the intent. If you hunt, it's much easier but you have to go through the process for each gun.
“Good point, but I would also ask why the hell U.S. military personnel are being transported to a combat zone through an ‘effing civilian airport.”
Exactly. Especially since we have a HUGE SECURE EFFING AIRBASE at RAMSTEIN.
And yes, I am in Germany.
(I believe the powers that be became, shall we say...COMPLACENT?)
says he was using an FN 9mm. I have owned 4 Glock 21s. Had a few stovepipes out of many thousands of rounds. My Colt Combat Commander jams. It needs tuned. My ruger 22 has failed to fire but that was bad ammo. Don’t own a sig. The only guns I have ever owned that never jammed are my revolvers.
My impression is that they left their homebase and flew into Frankfurt’s airport...where the Air Force was going to pick them up...in a Air Force blue bus (American made, so you see it a mile away), and then shuttle them to Ramstein for the cargo flight onto the final destination.
They’ve likely done this thousands of times. The issue is....having Air Force blue buses (or green Army buses) running around to pick-up or deliver GI’s at the airport. Up until 1999...it was a contract deal and a German bus would shuttle folks wherever you were going...so you dressed in civies and got picked up by a German.
Now, I will add this...most all of these GI’s meet at the USO point...which I would also suggest as being a dumb idea to maintain, but it’s been there forty years.
We had a German exchange student who freaked out because so many people here have guns. Thought we were gangsters or something. He said it’s rare that any German would own one.
Can it be said that the main stream media is responsible for this murder by highlighting the accidental killing of Afghan civilians & (I am almost 100% sure) badmouthing the US military in their commentary?
And I always thought that we came to the aid of muslim Kosovo against Serbia. Goes to show you it doesn’t pay to try to be their friend.

Thanks for that link.
Everyone of our guys had a gun but NO AMMUNITION!!!!! One of the fathers of an airmen that survived the attack called a local radio programm today. His father said “I guess they were all suppose to throw thier guns at him in hopes of hitting him in the head with a gun! This is despicable!
Years ago when the +P ammo came out I bought some Super Vel Hollow Points. My Browning 9mm did not like them. The nose of the hollow-point was quite flat and would jam on occasions.
The new ammo they make today in which the hollow point is rounded, feeds with absolutely no problem.
I suspect the shooter (Piece of sh--) was using a poorly designed slug for the FN.
No, they weren't. They were in civilian attire..
“I dont know what make of gun this POS used,”
The article says it was an FN 9mm. I wouldn’t bet my life on one, though I don’t know the brand very well. Admittedly, I’m a revolver fan.
No they would not have been armed.
If he just bought it new, he might not have broken it in fully yet. I’ve had several guns that were jam-o-matics when they were new that later performed flawlessly.
I’d hate to think of what would have happened to him if he’d gotten into my SUV and opened the glove compartment. Might have had to call 911. Then, once I told the Knoxville cops what hapened, I’d have needed the EMTs to keep the poor cops from laughing to death.
“Do not give out deployment information carelessly but only on a “need to know” basis. We are at war after all.”
AT/FP 101. For this very reason. I mourn his death but want to scream at the lack of OPSEC.

A double action FN semi-auto pistol with restrike capability? Do they make one of those?
Would like to see this Jihadist sent to Club Gitmo.
I’d go with limp-wristing it - especially when your wrist is cocked in that position. Good.
