Pelosi Statement on Passage of 1099 Legislation March 03, 2011

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the House passed the Small Business Paperwork Mandate Elimination Act, which repeals the expanded 1099 small business reporting requirements included in the Affordable Care Act and pays for it by raising taxes on middle class families by up to $5,000:

"House Democrats support repealing the expanded 1099 requirement on small businesses and we voted on a bill last year to achieve this goal – paid for by closing tax loopholes that allowed corporations to ship jobs overseas. Republicans refused to support our legislation and sided with Big Oil instead.

"Today, the Republican majority brought a bill to the floor that will raise taxes on the middle class in order to pay for the repeal of the 1099 legislation.

"America’s middle-class families must not bear the brunt of the Republican tax hikes, especially at a time they can least afford it. Democrats will work to get a bill to the President to repeal the expanded 1099 that he will sign, while continuing to focus on creating jobs, responsibly reducing the deficit, and strengthening the middle class."

“raising taxes on middle class families by up to $5,000”

First: Do what???

Second: It’s not like any tax burden on businesses doesn’t get passed through to the consumer as much as possible anyway.

in order to pay for the repeal of the 1099 legislation

How can this be a cost? It didn't exist a year ago, it won't exist next year.

Where is the cost? They are nuts.

The whole thing is unconstitutional

Why repeal a part of it?

Watch for some new legal tactic where they proclaim it as now having the equivalent of having a severability clause , because the ‘severed’ part of it

I cannot believe no one has slapped this beuotch silly yet

The 1099 requirements are in the NObama HELLTH Care bill. The new requirements went into effect as of Jan 1, 2011.

For any business, but particularly small business, it was an accounting nightmare.

If you don’t own a small business or have never had to prepare 1099’s, I cannot readily explain how much trouble this was expected to create.

Life long bookkeeper.
