MADISON -- The 14 missing Senate Democrats have until 4 p.m. today to return to the Capitol or face apprehension tantamount to arrest “with or without force."
GOP Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) ordered the apprehension of the senators who fled the state two weeks ago to Illinois to avoid a vote on Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill.
Republicans voted 19-0 to give the Democrats until 4 p.m. Thursday to appear before the Senate.
"They have pushed us to the edge of a constitutional crisis," Fitzgerald said. "We simply cannot have democracy be held hostage because the minority wants to prove a point."
The Senate also voted for a "call of the house," which is the mechanism used to compel senators to return to the chamber.
That means the Senate sergeant at arms Ted Blazel can "with or without force" and with or without the help of any law enforcement officers in the state to take them into custody and bring them to the state Capitol.

No, I read Vinson’s most recent “clarification” and he made it very clear that he expected the Executive to stop implementing unconstitutional law. You should read the document, it isn’t very long and isn’t full of legalese.

Police unions may have been initially allowed for the purpose of protecting police from bogus charges and lawsuits, but in many cases the goals of the union will be antithetical to good policing. In case of a conflict, who's the union going to protect--the cop who stands up for lawful governance, or the cop who's more amenable to the union's will?
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said Thursday that he will issue layoff notices to 1,500 state workers on Friday if his proposal forcing them to pay more for benefits and taking away nearly all their collective bargaining rights isn’t passed by then.
Walker also said in an interview with The Associated Press that he is negotiating with Democrats who stymied passage of the bill by leaving the state for changes to the proposal that would get them to return. Walker said he won’t compromise on the collective bargaining issue or anything that saves the state money.
“I can’t take any of that off the table,” he said.
Walker’s budget proposal hinges on the state saving $330 million over two years from forcing state workers to pay more for their benefits. He’s also cutting aid to schools and local governments by about $1 billion, reductions he says they can’t handle without the freedom he gives them through eliminating nearly all collective bargaining with public workers.
Walker said he has to issue the layoff notices starting Friday so the state can start to realize the $30 million savings he had assumed would come from the state worker concessions contained in the bill. The layoffs wouldn’t be effective for 31 days, and Walker said he could rescind them if the bill passed in the meantime.
All state workers, except those in prisons, state hospitals and other facilities open around the clock, would be potential layoff targets, he said.
“We’ll prepare them, let them out by the end of the day,” Walker said. “I pushed it off as long as I could ... I do not want to have layoffs.”
As for the Senate Democrats, Walker said he was talking with some of the “more reasonable members” about a deal that could get them to come back.
“I’m still cautiously optimistic we can get this done,” Walker said. “I think we’re close, but the problem is we thought we were close the past couple days.”

The Republican leader of the state Senate signed orders finding the 14 AWOL Democrats in contempt and allowing the chamber’s sergeant at arms to use police force to detain them if necessary. Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says his orders are only binding should the senators return to Wisconsin.

Sen. Chris Larson said they hadn’t done anything illegal and couldn’t be arrested. “All 14 of us remain in Illinois, very strong in our convictions,” Sen. Jon Erpenbach said in a statement. “Issuing arrest warrants ... isn’t going to solve the problem.”
Fitzgerald called on any Wisconsin citizens who see the senators to contact police.

I want to go for the win-win-win situation here for Wisconsinites - permanently lay off the Felonious 14 Dem-bulb Fleebaggers, pass the legislation the Dems are trying to thwart at all costs, and lay off a bunch of bureacrat workers. What could top that?
