Why would you assume that? back in 1976 the younger sister of my college roommate got pregnant as a college freshman. her boyfriend was also a freshman. A shotgun wedding ensued. They had the baby;their parents continued to pay their tuition and support them. Siblings on both sides who were also at the U of Pittsburgh at the time, scheduled their classes around babysitting the baby. she graduated with a degree in nursing, he went on and became a dentist. they went on to have 4 more children after graduation and are still married 35 years later.

Most universities prior to the mid seventies had married housing for couples who needed to be married prior to graduaiton.

I assume it because star basketball players, either in college or the NBA, don’t, as a general rule, turn out to be good, faithful husbands and fathers when they impregnate their girlfriends. However, it’s possible that the young man’s losing his place on the team will lead to marriage, graduation from some college with a useful degree, and many years of happy family life. It certainly would be nice if that were the outcome.
