SNIPPET: “AP has more on Uka:

Kosovo Interior Minister Bajram Rexhepi identified the suspect as Arif Uka, a Kosovo citizen from the northern town of Mitrovica.

In Mitrovica, family members identified him as Arid Uka, saying that he was born and educated in Germany where his family moved some 40 years ago.

However, German police said he was born in Kosovo.

An uncle, Rexhep Uka, said the suspect’s grandfather was a religious leader at a mosque in a village near Mitrovica.”

SNIPPET: “The northern town of Mitrovica is best known for the ethnic division between majority ethnic Albanians and minority Serbs. The former mining town has also been the focus of reports that it breeds Islamic extremists.”

SNIPPET: “Also keep in mind that in 2007, German authorities foiled a massive Islamic Jihad Group plot to carry out terror attacks on US military targets at Frankfurt and Ramstein. Two German converts to Islam and a Turkish man were arrested for plotting the attacks.”

SNIPPET: “Kosovan authorities identify suspect as Arif Uka

Uncle says he was a German-born devout Muslim who worked at the airport
Troops had just arrived in Germany from Britain”

SNIPPET: “Officials said the gunman, identified as Arid Uka, 21, shouted out ‘Islamic slogans’ before opening fire.”

SNIPPET: “The attacker, reportedly wielding a knife and a handgun, then boarded the bus and fired at the driver before being taken down by police, the official said.

The suspect’s uncle, 70-year-old Rexhep Uka, said Uka was born and raised in Germany and was a devout Muslim who worked at the airport.

He said Uka’s grandfather was a religious leader at a mosque in the village of Zhabar, near Mitrovica, Kosovo.

Murat Uka, who identified himself as the alleged shooter’s father, says the only thing he knew about his son was that he hadn’t turned up at work on Wednesday.”
