As the car drove away, a Secret Service van flashed its lights behind them. “Keep driving,” Jackson Lee told her staffer. Ultimately, the driver pulled over in defiance of the boss’s wishes. At this point, Jackson Lee emerged from the car, screaming, “I’m Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee! Who do you think you are?” to a team of Secret Service agents.

Jackson Lee accused the “white” agent at the gate of racism, claiming she wouldn’t have to deal with “this stuff” when Barack Obama became president. She then filed a formal complaint with the Secret Service, which prompted an investigation. A Treasury official later explained that the accusation had been dismissed because the agent in question was Hispanic, not white.

She also goes to every Texas-related event in the Capitol and tries to take credit for whatever has been done, money appropriated etc. when she has had nothing to do with the subject at hand. Among the Texas congressional delegation, Dims and Republicans alike, it is a joke, and she is a joke.

“’You stupid mother-effer’ was like a constant,” says one. “Like, all the time. But the interesting thing is she would really project that behavior more towards her African American staffers.

I have a friend who used to work in a bank in Houston. One day sjl comes in to cash a check. My friend didn’t know her from a box of rocks and asked for her ID. She got the “Don’t you know who I am???!!!! How dare you ask for my ID.” My friend stood her ground and made her show it.

Congressional staffers are, for the most part, salaried employees and are not paid overtime. Only the lowest on the totem poll, data entry, phone answering, etc. get overtime. Everyone else just sucks it up. They can keep track of their hours and claim comp time, but that pretty much puts an end to their career advancement. This is one of the reasons they bail out to K Street and the associations.

...member of the Science Committee...

Worth highlighting.

Is there any wonder this country is in the mess it's in when ignoramuses like this run things?

And yet for all the nastiness, Jackson Lee also exhibits a zany side. She regularly asks that documents be printed in different colors. She has staff drive her from the Rayburn building to the Cannon building to attend homeland security hearings. She sometimes demands two staffers in two cars pick her up from the airport, one for her, the other for her luggage. On one occasion, she demanded an aide wear a green hat when picking her up.

Can't believe I'm saying this but that green hat is actually a good idea for identifying a staffer if you're not quite sure who it is. More secure than the staffer holding up a sign with her name on it too. Maybe the only good idea she's had after all those years in Congress.

And the article concludes with this gem:

Jackson Lee’s speeches are frequent and eccentric enough to have occasioned a game in other Capitol Hill offices.

Every day, one staffer puts money into a Sheila Jackson Lee jar.

If she speaks on the House floor, as she usually does, the jar moves to the next desk.

On the rare day she doesn’t speak, the staffer holding the jar wins all the money

She’s probably the “best and brightest” in her gerrymandered district congress.

It shouldn’t be too hard for a couple of the staffers, who know that they are going to quit, set her up with some kind of video sting.

It would be simple, have a small video camera with adequate miking wait in some place where she is going to be, and have someone push a few of her buttons. It could be on YouTube in minutes.

Better yet, store up a few and have them leak out as a series.

Gosh that would be fun.

Might be fun to pass out dozens of green hats to random people at the airport waiting to pick someone up on the appointed day. It might produce an epic storm of 'Who are you? Get the hell out of my car, lady!'.

“I am a queen, and I demand to be treated like a queen,”

This country began with ousting royalty, now we elect royalty to Congress.

All peoples deserve their respective governments.

Sounds like (among her many other faults/flaws) she doesn’t know how to tell time.

Someone once said: ‘You can judge a person three ways-

• Who did you marry?
• How do you deal with death?
• How do you treat subordinates?’

I’ve never heard anything about real queens in the modern era like Queen Elizabeth treating her staff in anything like this manner. I’ve met two members of royalty (not England’s) and both of them were reserved, dignified, intelligent, polite and considerate- including and especially to people who were serving them.
